Dual use (or “swing”) beds are rooms that can support more than one level of care - typically rest home or hospital care - to be provided in the same room, which means the resident doesn't need to change rooms. This can be especially reassuring if you’re worried about the possibility of needing higher-level care in the future and having to relocate within the facility.
The main exception is dementia-specific care, which may require a move to a more secure environment.
Not every facility offers dual use rooms, and in many cases, a premium charge may apply.
If you'd like to explore availability, you can search for dual use residential care vacancies on Eldernet Residential Care. On each listing, you'll find the different levels of care offered.
