Should my parent move to a care home in another area?

This is a question we often hear, and it comes in various guises.

Should your relative move out of their rural area and come into town, or should they move from where they are, to be closer to you? Often the short answer is that its best to stay where they’ve got the most connections.

The decision however is best made by your relative, it’s going to be their home. They may state their preference in a small voice (so they don’t offend you with your best intentions) however it’s important to listen to that voice. Don’t over-promise your support. It will make you feel guilty if you can’t deliver on that promise. Support your relative to make an informed decision and then help them to make it happen.
