Dear Paul,
Our previous 10 years experience at another facility had been an unmitigated disaster. My mother never received the care that she paid for, or even the minimal respect and warmth. It was a blessing in disguise when she finally broke her hip and despite all predictions survived surgery. This provided me with the perfect opportunity to move her. Thank goodness Ellerslie Gardens had a vacancy at time. After meeting Patricia Stubbs and her Clinical Manager, even after seeing more upmarket options, I felt and hoped that EG was the best place for mum. This has proved to be the case. As an only child it has not been easy to be away as Mum has aged. She has always been fiercely independent and did not often know what was best for herself or any insight into her deterioration. Now she has stopped battling the people who want to care for her because all the staff at EG have taken the time to get to know her. They have been able to provide a level of care that I could only dream of and had expected in the past. Since we moved to Queenstown in December 2014 I have total peace of mind with regards to Mum. My sincere thanks to Patricia, Jinsu and all the staff who have made this possible. Should any family wish to speak to me about my experience at EG I would be happy to be contacted.

Ellerslie Gardens where everyone was so full of love, cheerfulness and professionalism. Barbara was given the utmost care by both the day and night nursing staff as well as the hairdresser and the kitchen staff who provided Barbara's home-cooked meals. To Patricia and Gail my heartfelt thanks, you were interested in Barbara as your own. Thank you both very much for taking my daily calls from Sydney, one feels helpless when living in another country, but you both made it easier for me. It was comforting receiving Dr. Parr's information regarding Barbara's health via emails from you Jinsu, very much appreciated. Dear Patricia and Staff,
I wanted to thank you and your staff for the care they took of my mother Bet.

My sister-in-law and I looked at a number of facilities to ensure we chose the best one for Mum and Ellerslie Gardens Home & Hospital appealed to us straight away.

There was a nice homely atmosphere which we felt as soon as we walked in and the way you were able to address residents by name, and their reaction to you, was another factor that really impressed us.

The loving care from all the wonderful staff who looked after her needs were exceptional. They treated her like one would treat a family member and nothing was too much trouble for them.

In her last days they did everything they could to keep her as comfortable as possible and to ensure that she didn't suffer any pain. They regularly checked in on her to see if there was anything they could do as they were aware that she didn't like to bother people and take up their time. She was happy at Ellerslie Gardens and had some good times in the garden, at Happy Hour and having chats with your staff. She also valued the fact that people treated her with respect and took the time to listen to her replies when asking questions which is something that doesn't always happen elsewhere.

Staff showed care and compassion to me too on occasions when I was upset which I really appreciated, and they were always happy to help me with any questions I had or requests I made.

I have heard some horror stories relating to Aged Care homes and hospitals, more so since I returned home, so I will always be grateful for and take comfort from the decision we made for Mum to move into Ellerslie Gardens Home & Hospital.

Once again, thank you to you and your staff. I really appreciate everything you all did for Mum.

Dear Mam,
Today the 14/01/2015 marks the fact that I have been in this establishment exactly one calendar year. Madam I am very happy to say that time has flown and I am sure this is due to your management of staff of the highest degree. When I was put here I anticipated my life to be very unhappy, lonely, friendless and bored stiff, but to the contrary, this now is my home of which I am proud and constantly praising to the outside world. You could not of course achieve this, without the help of your very professional, friendly staff you have mustered. Please accept this note in the heartfelt manner I hope to achieve. May the powers that be, bless this establishment.

As a man of very wide experience I would like to bring to your notice an act of honesty of the highest degree. Last evening 25/06/2015 upon returning to my cabin after having
dinner, there was a knock on my door, bidding them to enter
a staff member entered. She said "I have found your wallet
would you please check it". It most certainly was mine. My relief was nearly uncontrollable, because that day I had occasion to have done a considerable amount of business, so articles irreplaceable were in abundance plus cash. I would like to compensate this lady but it has been explained to me that is not possible as it is against Company policy. Please Madam recognise this for me, and congratulate this lady for me she is a very trusted friend.

Special Features
Some of our Rooms are "VERY LARGE" with kitchenettes to have a microwave, fridge and kettle so a level of independence and homelike environment can be enjoyed especially when there are visitors. They are similar to a studio apartment and are very popular for couples. These have a full ensuite and the ability to have a sitting/dining area. They also have a ranch slider allowing access to the gardens. There are also large windows allowing plenty of light. Additional charges may apply.

Interests & Activities
Weekly Social Calendar - printed and on the notice board, copies at Reception - Our Activity Person (Play Lady) visits each Resident every morning and informs them of what is happening that day.

We encourage our Residents to take part in our activity programme.

We have our own library of big print books and the library bus comes fortnightly.

We can provide Advocacy (An Advocate comes and talks to the Residents) and Age Concern and access to all Associations eg Stroke, Probus, Communicare etc.

We have board games, jigsaws, indoor bowls, bingo, a shop on site, church services, concerts, outside Entertainers, Cultural Performances, Parties with family members, birthday celebrations - cake and present (we take a photo too!)

We have excercise to music, access to planting/raised planter boxes, skittles, and happy hour.

Weekly trip to local shopping centre.

Our own van
We are an executive member of the Parkinsons' Society.

Rooms can have Sky TV.

We visit the Mt Wellington Panmure RSA once a month and have quite a few RSA members in our facility.

Staffing Details Trusted, reliable staff that have worked at Ellerslie Gardens for a long time. Staff do not tend to leave and consider Ellerslie Gardens as an extension of their own families. Ellerslie Gardens is owned by Harbourside Investments.
