Choosing a Residential Care Facility in Auckland

Auckland is home to a wide variety of rest homes and residential care facilities for older New Zealanders. From secure dementia units to boutique homes offering full-time support, Auckland’s aged care options cover every level of need. With services available across Central, East, West, and South Auckland, families can find care close to home. Providers focus on personal wellbeing, clinical safety, and maintaining independence, often with access to medical professionals and allied health services. Whether you need immediate care or are planning for the future, rest homes in Auckland offer flexible support tailored to the preferences of residents and whānau.

What is a Rest Home?

A New Zealand rest home, also known as a care home or residential aged care facility, is a place where older adults can receive around-the-clock care and support in a comfortable and secure environment. There are four levels of care delivered in residential care facilities in New Zealand: Rest Home, Hospital, Rest Home Dementia, and Psychogeriatric Specialist Hospital Care. All care home facilities are certified by the Ministry of Health, which involves an audit process to identify providers that deliver high levels of care.
