My children think I should go into care but I don't agree

It is not easy hearing that others want you to make a potentially life changing decision. It is likely that there has been an event or events that have led to this situation. Showing yourself to be willing to listen to all perspectives and medical advice before deciding what to do should help defuse the situation.

It’s likely your children are quite different to one another, each with their own experiences, world views and values. It’s likely too that they are caring and considerate in their own ways, do not want to see you placed at risk and want the best for you. (What each of you see as 'risk' can vary widely.)

 Make sure you also seriously consider any recommendations made following your assessment. The assessors as skilled at helping you understand what your options are. Making a decision based on good advice can help ease any tensions and any sense of responsibility your children may feel for you.

This article assumes that you have been assessed as being eligible for residential care and that you also have the option of staying at home.
