Description
Live a rich and fulfilling life at The Gardens Retirement Village!

The Gardens is a welcoming, modern retirement village offering you independence, community, freedom and security.

With 20 stylish, two-bedroom villas, and 40 one bedroom units, The Gardens Retirement Village is a place to get the most out of life.

As well as a strong sense of community, our residents enjoy long term security, thanks to the future care options at The Gardens Care Home and Hospital next door.

The Gardens is part of the Bupa group of rest homes, hospitals, retirement villages and personal medical alarms. We are a private company, and because we have no shareholders, we can invest what we earn to make improvements that help us provide better care.

As part of the global Bupa group, we are able to provide superior clinical support, while focusing on helping each of our residents get the most out of each day. Bupa is one of New Zealand’s leading aged care providers.

For more information, please visit the Bupa link below or scroll down to download our brochure.
Testimonials
“One of the best decisions I have ever made was to move into my home at The Gardens Retirement Village. Like many, I was dubious at first but I am so glad to be here. The grounds are beautiful. You can do your own garden if you wish or the gardeners will look after it for you if you are no longer able.

There is always company if I want it - I can choose to spend quiet time alone if I wish, or join in with others for the many activities. There is a good mix of people living here, it doesn’t take long to fit in and there is always someone available to help should I need it. I feel very safe and secure in my home.” – Betty

“I came to The Gardens to look at the villa my brother and his wife had just bought and ended up buying one! I love the people, join in all the activities and have even been on the social committee. Everyone in the village gets on well. What more could one want from their golden years. I love it here and have absolutely no regrets.” – Peter

“Formerly from Taranaki, I have been a resident at The Gardens Retirement Village (previously known as Mitchell Downs) for many years and I just love living here. We have many activities including regular coffee gatherings, indoor bowls, cards, scrabble, bingo, outings and a monthly social. I utilise the van to do my shopping each week and look forward to happy hour on a Friday night. The village manager is very helpful and kind – what more could we ask for?” - Dot

“I came to the village only to have a look, as my son thought the family home was too large and that in time I would need to move. It only needed one look! I was sold and I couldn’t be happier. I have made new friends and join in most of the activities. I enjoy the outings, I feel safe and there is always help if I need it. I’m so glad I came.” – Margaret

“I’ve been a “happy camper” at The Gardens Retirement Village, and I have never regretted moving here. My comfortable, one-bedroom unit has a million dollar view, and it feels like home. I have taken an active part in the activities that are available (optional) so I know nearly everyone and I feel that my neighbours are my friends. One of the good things about the village is its size - not too big.” - Helen

“We are residents in a two-bedroom villa at The Gardens Retirement Village. We are pleased that we made the decision to move as we have found the village provides secure independent living with a range of social activities that we can select to participate in if we so choose. Our children, grandchildren and friends visit regularly and were all supportive of our move to The Gardens. We are fortunate that we have been able to develop and maintain the garden surrounding our villa as we both enjoy gardening. We feel that we moved at the right time to the right place.” – Anne and Norm

Registered Retirement Village? RVA (Retirement Villages Association of New Zealand (Inc))
Updated: 1 Aug 2016

NOTE: The Retirement Villages Act 2003 (The Act) is designed to provide improved protection for people who ‘buy’ into a retirement village. If you intend to ‘purchase’ you must get independent legal advice before signing your occupation right agreement as required under The Act. Some Retirement Village type facilities are not required to register under The Act so different legal requirements apply. Please make sure you investigate fully.

In some villages there may be some Retirement Village units that have multiple uses e.g. a Serviced Apartment may also be used as a Residential Care Suite. The same unit may therefore show in several places on Eldernet. The DHB Shared Services website provides additional information about this service.
