Disatisfied

While all of our concerns about the care of our parents were raised with management, a large number of them went unaddressed. I would like to let other people know that this was not a good home for our parents. the staff at Iona never listened to the concerns of our family with regard to the care of our parents and at times it felt like they went out of their way to make things very difficult. This was a very stressful time for our family and i would not recommend this home to anyone despite their being some staff who were really caring and good at their jobs. We did remove our parents from Iona.

Provider response:

Our organisation treats every complaint as a learning opportunity to improve our services and thanks anonymous for drawing their concerns to our attention. We also thank them for their positive comments around the good work of our staff, it is appreciated. We make every effort to accommodate requests and apologise for the stress caused to family. We would welcome the opportunity for the reviewer to make direct contact to meet with the Director of Enliven Services to discuss the issues raised, as clearly we have not met the expectations of the residents and their family, for which we apologise

Description
A change of address, not of lifestyle, is how we like to describe a person’s move into a Presbyterian Support Otago independent-living retirement unit.

Like all our facilities, Iona has a Presbyterian foundation and welcomes people of all backgrounds and cultures.

Iona's 12 independent living units are alongside the rest home and hospital in the northern part of Oamaru.

It offers a wide range of services to indepenent-living residents who can engage as much or as little support as they need.

The staff does all it can to help residents and families experience a good transition to living at Iona, and welcomes family input into creating the right ‘personal feel’ for their loved one.

If you feel it's a little soon to move to Iona, we do have independent living units at Columba Court, 46 Hull St, South Hill. These are one bedroom units for which you purchase Occupation Right Agreements. See www.psotago.org.nz/purchase for more information
