Registered Nurse Yes We provide 24 hour onsite Registered Nurse coverage. The RN team are highly skilled and experienced, able to care for clients with high and complex needs, for example managing Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) and peritoneal dialysis; and palliative care of course.

Healthcare Assistants/Caregivers Yes We have a high coverage of qualified senior healthcare assistants who provide personal care to residents. We pride ourselves on the level of training provided and our staff are continuously learning and developing, keeping up to date with best practice.
Physiotherapist Yes A physiotherapist attends the service regularly to promote the rehabilitaion of residents. A physical therapy assistant works Monday to Friday with the guidance of the physiotherapist.
Occupational Therapist Negotiable A qualified occupational therapist is available as required.
Social Worker (on site) Negotiable We have access to the ADHB Care Team social workers for all residents and work with them to ensure that all residents receive an appropriate level of care.
Diversional Therapist Yes A Recreation Coordinator under diversionl therapist training works Monday to Friday providing a range of therapeutic programmes, for example music, art and dance therapy.
Activities Co-ordinator Yes We employ an activities co-ordinator Monday to Friday who provides a range of recreational and entertainment activities on site and in the community. We have musicians play live music regularly. The last Friday each month is a 'happy hour' social event.
Hairdresser Yes A qualified hairdresser attends weekly to provide hairdressing care to residents.
Podiatrist Yes The Registered podiatrist visit every 6 to 8 weeks. Our care staff may provide basic finger nail cutting and the podiatrist provides professional treatment for more difficult nails, diabetic nails and toe nails on request.
Dietitian Yes A dietician attends regularly to oversee menus and provide dietary plans for residents with specific dietary requirements.
Accredited Visitors Yes We have a regular residents advocate who attends weekly. We also have another residents advocate visit monthly plus prn. We have various volunteers from local schools and other community agencies who spend time and do activities with residents.
Kaumatua Yes St Patricks Home and Hospital are fortunate and proud of our Director Mr David Rankin, Ngapuhi leader, Big Maori Chief to provide Kaumatua service for our residents and family.
Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor Yes A Catholic deacon from the local parish visits weekly. An Anglican chaplain also attends weekly and provides a monthly service. Other denominational assistance can be made available as required.

Oxygen Management Yes We have oxygen therapy at St Patricks. All of our nurses are trained with Oxygen management and Oxygen therapy. We have looked after patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) on Oxygen.
Gastronomy/Nasogastric Management Yes All our RNs at St Patricks are trained with Gastronomy/Nasogastric management. We are able to take care patients with percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) Feeding, Nasogastric Tube (NG) feeding etc.
Bariatric (Care of the very overweight) No Yes, we have one bariatric bed only. But if need other special equipment, we don't have at the moment.
Palliative Care (Contracted) Yes St Patricks Home and Hospital work under the contract of Auckland DHB.
End of Life/Palliative Care Yes We provide End of life/Palliative care with high nursing skills, i.e. sub-cuts fluids and syringe driver (pump) deliver 24 hours continuous medication infusion.
IV Antibiotic Capability Yes All our RNs at St Patricks are IV certified. We are able to manage IV antibiotics. We have looked after patient with Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) feeding via Central Venous Catheter (CVC) line
Dialysis Yes All our RNs are trained and qualified to look after Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. We have currently five residents on PD and we work closely with PDU Greenlane and Acute Dialysis at ACH to manage our PD patients care.
Wound Care Yes Our nursing staff have developed a great expertise in healing wounds that others have found slow to heal. We manage wound care as a part of our core care.
Diabetic Care Yes All nursing staff receive training on the management of diabetes. Our registered Nurses monitor patients blood sugar regularly. We manage diabetes with proper exercise, healthy eating, administering oral medication and insulin injection.
Continence Advice Yes We have the continence adviser from industry to provide regular inservice training. All senior staff have received full training in the management of incontinence. We promote continence by regular toileting programme.
Stomal Therapy Yes All nursing staff have received training in the management of stoma cares. We are working closely with ADHB stoma nurse specialist looking after patients with colostomy bags, ileostomy bags etc.
Stroke Rehabilitation Yes With 10 years experience of rehab nursing, Our Manager, along with many years experiences rehabilitation Clinical Manager, along with RNs and management team, and the input of our physiotherapist team, we are good at catering for the rehabilitation of residents who have had a stroke.
ACC Rehabilitation Yes We have residents from ACC at the moment with rehabilitation programme.
Spinal Injuries Care Yes We have two ACC resident with spinal injury under our care
Infection Control Yes St Patricks belongs to a bench marking group to compare our management of infections with approximately 20 other facilities around New Zealand. We have an excellent and embedded programme to manage infections.
Surgical Followup Yes We manage surgical followup and rehabilitation on request or when our residents has had surgery. We regularly take residents for rehabilitation following surgical treatment.
Psychiatric Care Yes We are not locked up mental health ward; but we work closely with ADHB Old People Mental Health service to look after patients with mental health issues; while still able to live in the community.
Primary Rural Health Care No We are located in Epsom, Auckland Central.
Clinical Management Yes Jenny and Chao are NZ trained RNs with BN degrees; Jenny also has Master of Nursing degree from the University of Auckland. Day Programme for day stay clients Yes We can provide regular day care for anyone who needs it. This includes meals and outings. Often a good introduction to residential care when this becomes needed.

Semi-Secure Yes We have digital locks on the gates. Residents who may wander are prevented from doing so. However, the lower floor is open to a driveway and if residents can manage the lift they may be able to get out. Prospective residents are reviewed individually.

Special Features
This facility is owner operated and is situated in a quiet no-exit street. It covers about 2/3 acre in the heart of picturesque Epsom. The grounds are park-like with flowers, native trees and seating in shady spots for our residents. Most of St. Patrick's is purpose built while the original villa remains at the front. We are indeed fortunate to be in the heart of the city yet in such a quiet and peaceful street with all amenities close by.

A variety of accomodation is offered at St. Patrick's. Downstair there are Seven motel-like units and four bedrooms in a former owners house (Grandma's Cottage). They fully integrate with the facility and its activities. In addition, St. Patrick's has 47 hospital beds for our less able residents.

As owners/managers we are dedicated to providing the very best of care and we have many testimonials from families of former and current residents. We live within 15 minutes of the facility and we also work as RNs/management. All staff are expected to attend our regular in-service training sessions to keep updating their skills. We often use outside educators for more specialised training. The very highest standard of care and cleanliness is expected at all times by management from staff. We are certified to provide hospital and rest home services. We have well-developed quality assurance systems with regular audits and monitoring to ensure we maintain the very highest of standards.

Our activity programme, which is co-ordinated by our recreation coordinator who undertaking the Divertional therapist programme, includes all of the following: regular visits from our resident advocate (Vera Gillard), Alzheimer's Society, housie, board games, breakfast in bed, canine friends, cards, children, religion, Communicare, concerts, craft, entertainers from outside, exercises, games, garden, gardening for those so inclined, happy hour with entertainment, jigsaw, massage, movies, newspaper reading, parties, pastoral care, pianist, quizzes, reading, shopping, sing-a-longs, vegetarian, videos. Truly wonderful!!

Activities are available most days of the week but not all residents are able to participate at this level. No resident is excluded and everyone is catered for to suit their needs.

Entertainment in the form of piano and piano accordion is provided on a regular weekly basis. Our happy hour with nibbles, drinks and entertainment is held on the last Friday afternoon of each month at 3 p.m. to which we welcome the inclusion of resident family members.

We endeavour to get our residents off the property from time to time. We have our own 11 passenger minivan which takes regular Twice a week trips. These are a real highlight. We also attempt to visit the movies (The Lido cinema is one block over.), and other places of interest such as SnowPlanet, Butterfy Creek, the beach, St. Lukes mall and outside concerts.

Staffing qualifications and details Our staff are all well chosen and well trained. We train our staff to treat our residents as our uncle, untie, grandparents. St Patricks Home and Hospital is a big family, include our residents, family and staff.
Details about meals All meals are home cooked on the premises by professional cooks who have worked in rest homes and hospitals for many years. St Patricks provide two set of meals, one set is European meals and one set is Chinese meals, to cater our culture diversity residents. We have a four week rotating menu for European residents. Chinese meals have been lots more exciting with lots of great work.
