Nestled on a peaceful street in the heart of Upper Hutt, Elderslea offers options for aged care living, with a range of standard and premium care rooms, including Care Suites.

With an ideal location close to motorways, buses and the train station, it’s easy for friends and family to pop by, or get you out and about to local shops or cafes. Everything you need is easily accessible, so you can stay active in the local community and participate in clubs or societies, just as you’ve always done.

Your room is your own private space, so you can decorate it with your favourite pictures and ornaments. Standard rooms are large enough for a single bed, a chair and a wardrobe or chest of drawers. The cost of a standard room is included in the Care Services Fee set by the DHB. Premium rooms have additional features such as more space, an ensuite bathroom or outdoor access, but you’ll need to pay an extra amount per day to cover the cost of these premium features.

Care Suites provide both Rest Home and Hospital level care, which means you can relax knowing you won’t have the upheaval of moving again if your needs increase. All Care Suites have a heat pump and full ensuite, as well as a kitchenette with a fridge and a kettle – perfect for making a cuppa when friends and family come to visit. You own the right to occupy your Care Suite, so you can personalise it with your favourite furniture and treasured pieces.

With a warm, family-friendly atmosphere, residents quickly feel right at home at Elderslea. There’s always something happening in our main lounge – find a friend to chat to or join in the day’s events. If it’s peace and quiet you crave, relax in the beautiful courtyard, or settle in a comfy chair in one of our many cosy nooks.

Tender Sunday roasts, hot fish and chips and scrummy homemade puddings…there’s a reason why the dining room is full before dinner! All of the above are regular features on our menu, which is packed with tasty family favourites you’d make at home. You’ll be sure to want second helpings! Oceania has Australasia's first and only certified Specialist in Gerontological Nutrition as we are committed to ensuring our residents are getting the best possible nutrition from each and every meal.

Registered Nurse Yes Suitably experienced and qualified Registered Nurses provide care in all care areas. There is a minimum of two rostered per shift. In addition there is a Clinical Nurse Manager and two Charge Nurses who are also Registered Nurses.

Physiotherapist Yes Our part time Physiotherapist assesses new residents mobility needs and establishes a plan of support. Our part time Physiotherapy Assistant supports resident rehab and exercise needs and trains staff in manual handling and hoist competency.
Diversional Therapist Yes The Programme is overseen by the Diversional Therapist who also runs the activities Programme in the rest Home.
Activities Co-ordinator Yes A Team of Activities Staff run programmes in the Dementia Unit, Rest Home and Hospital. All levels of abilities are catered for.
Hairdresser Yes A Hairdressing service is run in a newly built area.
Podiatrist Yes Visits fortnightly and stays as long as needed. All our residents can be seen at least 6 wkly or as necessary.
Dietitian Yes We have a dietitian who who establishes and oversees our menus. She provided advice as requested. We also access the community Dietitian as required.
Accredited Visitors Yes We have regular visits from Religious Groups. RSA will visit when we have members here as residents. Our Advocate visits monthly and talks with our residents and would alert the Manager if she thought there were any issues needing attention.
Kaumatua Yes We have a very good relationship with the Orongo mai Marae in Upper Hutt and we can and do access a Kaumatua.
Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor Yes Our Advocate is a chaplain. We also access Chaplains from specific denominations when requested.
Other Personnel Yes We have an Administrator and Receptionist, several Kitchen staff including a qualified Chef, Cooks, cleaning, maintenance and gardening personnel as well as a wide range of contractors for other services such as plumbing, Fire Safety, Pharmacy etc.

Oxygen Management Yes We manage Oxygen use commonly. We have three oxygen concentrators and have access to bottled Oxygen on our premises which are managed by Registered Nurses. We can access the Respiratory Nurse as needed.

End of Life/Palliative Care Yes Our staff are trained in Palliative care, where we focus on ensuring our residents are pain free, their dignity and respect remains intact and they maintain as much independance as possible.

Infection Control Yes We have our own Infection Control Nurse who attends seminars and workshops to keep herself up to date with Infection control topics. We also have access the the Hutt DHB's Infection Control team as well as the Pathologists from the Labarotory
Surgical Followup Yes We have a responsibility to ensure our residents get to their out patient appointments. If for whatever reason this is not possible (could be due to medical reasons)we will negotate with the service provider for an alternative.

May Bring Own Furniture Yes Residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture other than the bed which we prefer to supply because of concerns over staff back safety. A chair and other favourite pieces that will fit are welcome along with paintings and other personal items.

Staffing qualifications and details The Business & Care Manager is supported by the Clinical Manager and the Charge Nurses. Registered Nurses lead Health Care Assistants in the delivery of quality care. We have a Visiting Physio, physio assistant, Diversional Therapist, a Team of Activities staff, a maintenance person, administrator and Receptionist. We have a Chef, cooks and kitchen assistants, laundry workers and cleaners.
Details about meals Our Executive Chef oversees the Kitchen staff. All menus are audited by a dietcian. Meals are prepared on site and served via bain Maries. Likes, dislikes and allergies are catered for and residents have been very complimentary about the food.
Associated Complexes Elderslea has just extende the range of services by way of a re-build that has allowed us to cater for 69 Hospital residents, 35 Rest home and 20 Dementia residents.

Public Transport 0.50 Km We are very close to Fergusson Drive. The bus stops at the broadway shops and Elderslea is situated behind these shops.

Mall 2.00 Km Trentham city shopping centre is the local Mall in Upper Hutt. This Mall is wheelchair friendly. The Mall is slowly beginning to develop, currently there is Farmers and Warehouse, Post shop, food outlets and clothing.
Parks 2.00 Km Upper Hutt is reknowned for the beautiful parks. We are very close to Maidstone Park and Trentham Park.
Library 1.50 Km Library Bus visits fortnightly on a Wednesday. The Upper Hutt Library is also quite close
