About Wimbledon Villa

Wimbledon Villa logo

Wimbledon Villa offers Rest Home, Dementia care and Hospital level care. We have 2 separate wings, each with a warm 'home like' environment.

Wimbledon Villa is privileged to be able to offer a SPECIALIST DEMENTIA CARE AREA within our home with staff trained to a very high standard. Our facility is based on "Eden Care" principles; a philosophy encouraging one's 'spark of life'.

We offer a very safe and secure environment but residents also have the freedom to come and go indoors and outdoors as they please and enjoy our lovely gardens and surroundings.
In liaising with Hammond Care Dementia Specialists in Sydney, Australia, (a world class Dementia specialist service), we have established two delightful interactive dementia specific courtyards.

Most of the home has been purpose built and is well furbished, with bright sunny rooms, many with en-suites.
The original homestead built in the 1880's has been retained.
Our bedrooms are very comfortable and warm and many have a view of our centralised landscaped gardens. Our home has won many local garden awards and is well known for its tailored outdoor living spaces.

Our staff are of the highest quality and you can be assured we are 100% committed to meeting all the needs of our residents while maintaining their individuality and rights.

Our Clinical Nurse Manager is a highly experienced Registered Nurse. In addition we have 6 other experienced Registered Nurses in our home.

We offer an excellent activities programme for all our residents with two experienced qualified Diversional Therapist.
All of our residents receive an individualised care programme with input from their family/whanau always sought.

Some of the things our home offers are:
***SUPERB ACTIVITIES PROGRAMME & WALKING GROUP
We have an extensive activities programme run by our fully qualified Diversional Therapist and Activities Coordinator tailored to meet residents needs. Residents and families have input into the programme which includes a walking group, twice weekly outings, entertainment groups, pet therapy, and children who visit regularly.

***IDEAL HOME ENVIRONMENT
In keeping with world best practice and the current MOH guidelines we have no more than 20 residents in each of our separately staffed wings. We have 24 hour a day Registered nurses working in our hospital care area.

***OUTDOOR AREAS
Our outdoor areas have been designed in conjunction with Hammond Care Australia (a world authority on dementia environment design) to meet the specific outdoor needs of people with dementia.
Rather than vast open spaces our three outdoor areas provide ample, purposeful & tailored use of outdoor space. Sensory gardens, flowing water and many other features provide freedom, stimulation, peace and instill a feeling of safety for all our residents.
These areas are very functional with unrestricted access and designed specifically to support the person with dementia.

***NO DEAD END CORRIDORS
We have internal & external walking loops which allow residents to freely roam between indoors and outdoors.
There are also no dead end corridors which is very important for promoting residents sense of freedom and minimizing their confusion.

***RESTRAINT FREE
We do not use any form of restraint in our home.

***ENHANCED RESIDENTS SAFETY
We have numerous additional safety measures not always found in other homes.

***CLOSE TO PALMERSTON NORTH
We are only a mere 10 - 15 minute drive from Palmerston North. Our home is easily accessible to all residents and their families seeking specialist dementia care in the Manawatu area.

An information pack is available from the home and we invite anyone considering Dementia, Resthome or Hospital level care for their friend or relative to come and visit us first as part of their decision making process.

We have a variety of musical entertainers, including children, that visit weekly. Our homes piano is put to great use.

Our Diversional Therapist arranges a wide and varied group of interests and activities for all including pet therapy, baking, manicures, quizzes, ball sports, exercises, movies, arts & crafts and more.

Our Home's van is put to use at least twice a week. Our residents enjoy outings to the Wiouru Army Museum, the Aquarium in Napier, Ashhurst Domain, Senior Citizens, picnics and day trips to name but a few.

We have 2 beautiful outdoor areas for residents to relax and enjoy their surroundings. Our courtyards are purpose built for people with dementia, with external walking loops and various spots of interest including beautiful gardens to look at and flowers to pick.
