Special features

Whalan Lodge is a licensed Stage 2, 14 bed Rest Home. We are situated at Kurow in the Waitaki Valley which is in close proximity to the Lakes and the Waitaki River. We have spacious grounds and gardens to wander in.

The Home was purposely built as a Maternity Hospital for the rural area. It has the advantages of 10 single and 2 double bedrooms of which 8 bedrooms face north with 5 opening onto the sun trapped veranda. The spacious hallway has double doors into the Lounge and some of the bedrooms which makes easy access for wheelchair or walking frame users as well as the spacious toilets and bathrooms. The Home is heated by log burners situated in the Dining Room, Lounge and hallway as well as electric heaters in these same areas as well as in each bedroom to give you that real homely atmosphere.

Interests & activities

We have a planned Activity schedule which includes Happy Hour, trips out in our own Home van and wine tasting, as well as a vast list of indoor and outdoor activities.

In the grounds we have landscaped gardens, established trees, an accessible pathway for you to walk around or sit and take in the views. We grow our own vegetables which compliment our homely cooked meals.

"Our open home visiting policy" - for your family/whanau and friends we welcome them to come and help make our home your home.
