About Waihi Lodge Care Centre

Waihi Lodge Care Centre logo

Waihi Lodge Care Centre is a community owned, not-for-profit aged residential care facility located in the heart of beautiful Geraldine, South Canterbury. Operating under Seniorcare Geraldine Inc, our 21-bed rest home provides personalised care in a warm and welcoming environment where residents feel safe, valued and truly at home. Everything we do reflects our vision of “Eldercare Excellence At All Times.”

We provide rest home level care and private respite in a setting that feels like family. Our committed, caring and well-trained team take pride in getting to know each resident personally, understanding what is important to them and supporting them to live with dignity and independence. Our Registered Nurses work closely with local GPs to assess and manage health needs, with a strong focus on early intervention to help prevent hospital admissions and unnecessary transfers to higher levels of care. For many residents, Waihi Lodge becomes their final home, and we are privileged to provide compassionate end-of-life care in familiar and comforting surroundings.

Waihi Lodge is known for its strong community spirit. Friends and family are always welcome, and we encourage regular visits and involvement in daily life. Residents enjoy weekly van outings to places they have requested, including cafés, restaurants and local attractions. Our volunteer program provides companionship for those who may not have family close by, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to see a friendly face. Adding to the homely atmosphere is our much loved resident cat, Whiskers, who can often be found lounging in a sunny spot or visiting residents for a pat.

Our modern function centre accommodates up to 100 people and is available for hire at a very reasonable cost, making it an ideal venue for community events, meetings and private functions.

Seniorcare Geraldine Inc also offers 11 low cost rental cottages. An assessment process determines the level of need for applicants. Cottage residents are warmly welcomed to participate in Waihi Lodge activities and may join us for lunch by special arrangement. In addition, we offer three serviced apartments, which are currently fully occupied.

We are proud to support the wider Geraldine community through a range of outreach services. The Community Services Committee provides voluntary outreach support, and regular community events include weekly gentle exercise classes and a monthly social morning tea, both held at the Waihi Lodge Function Centre. Our volunteer team also provides a private daily Meals on Wheels service, including weekends, delivering home cooked hot meals directly to your door.

Our day programme, Club Waihi, is part of our philosophy of caring for older people in a supportive and inclusive way. It offers a few hours of activity, friendship and fun in a group setting two days per week, while also providing valuable respite time for family members and caregivers. To find out if you are eligible, please contact your GP for a referral to the NASC team, or phone NASC on 03 687 7120.
