About Southanjer

Kia ora/Hello! At Southanjer, we strive to provide the most home-like environment for all of our wonderful residents. We treat our residents as the individuals that they are, and ensure to always treat them with respect and dignity. We are situated only 5 minutes from beautiful Oamaru and yet we are in a lovely rural setting which we celebrate with having several farm animals and expansive vegetable gardens in which our residents can help to manage. We are the only facility in Oamaru that offers only dementia level care and our team are passionate and extremely proficient in the care that they provide. We encourage whanau to visit as they wish.
We are the proud winners of the 2020 NZ Aged Care Association's 'Small Operator Industry Award' which is an award that recognises the 'outstanding work of smaller operators in the NZ Aged Residential Care industry in caring for, supporting and enriching the lives of residents, their families and staff'.
We have been granted 4-year Certification in our most recent Ministry of Health Audit in February 2022 which reflects the excellent level of care provided to our residents.

Special features

The rural setting is a fantastic point of difference for Southanjer- we have 6 cattle, 2 pigs, 6 chickens, 1 golden retriever and 4 extensive vegetable gardens that the residents can help to manage if they are interested and can select delicious home-grown vegetables for lunch! A ‘memorial tree garden’ has been planted at the front of the home and plaques have been placed in memory of residents who have passed away from Northanjer or Southanjer. The view is amazing and includes the rural landscape and mountain ranges. Visitors often comment that they can’t believe such a wonderful and restful setting can only be 5 minutes from town.

We believe that a big part of our role is to support the families of our residents and have regular family BBQs, afternoon teas and meetings. Families are always encouraged to come along to outings if they are available. We believe in open communication and are in regular contact with our families to keep everyone in the loop.

Our personalised care is achieved by having an exceptional, passionate and caring team- Most of our team have been with us for over 5 years, with lots having been here for 10 years +. We are committed to providing staff education (both in-house and externally) in order for our team to continuously learn and improve our care. Our manager Belinda is a registered physiotherapist with post-graduate experience in neurorehabilitation.

Southanjer has a 4-year (48 month) certification for our most recent Ministry of Health Audit which proves that this wonderful home provides the best care for our loved residents.
