About Mt Herbert House (Mount Herbert)

Mt Herbert House (Mount Herbert) logo

Mt Herbert House is situated in the heart of Waipukurau, just a minute’s drive from the town centre. We provide Rest Home care, Hospital-level care, and Stage 3 Dementia care within a warm, respectful, and homely environment where residents’ physical, emotional, and social needs are supported.

Our care philosophy is based on resident-led care, which focuses on empowering residents to make choices about their daily routines, activities, and lifestyle. This approach ensures that each person maintains independence, dignity, and a sense of purpose while receiving the support they need.

Mt Herbert House has 42 Rest Home and Hospital beds in our purpose-built facility, featuring multiple lounge areas and a sheltered courtyard where residents can relax and enjoy the sun. Our on-site Manager is committed to delivering high-quality care and continually introduces best-practice initiatives that enhance the lives of those who live here.

We are also proud to offer specialised dementia care at The Forget Me Not Village, our secure dementia village opened on 3 November 2025. The village is named after the Forget Me Not flower, a symbol of dementia and a reminder of the importance of memory, compassion, and understanding. Designed to help people living with dementia enjoy a meaningful and normal daily life, the village is made up of five four-bedroom houses, with a sixth house serving as the central hub for shared meals, activities, and social connection. The hub includes the main kitchen where residents, alongside caregivers, can prepare meals, as well as a small shop where residents can use “Monopoly money” to purchase items of their choosing—supporting independence, familiarity, and purposeful living.

We charge no premium room fees for either our facility or our Dementia Village. Our focus is to provide inclusive, compassionate, and person-centred care for all who call Mt Herbert House or the Forget Me Not Village home.

An information pack is available from the home, and we warmly welcome anyone considering Rest Home, Hospital-level, or Dementia care for their loved one to visit or contact us.
