About Tuapeka Community Health
Tuapeka Community Health is a community-owned medical centre, rest home, and health service provider based in Lawrence. Our dedicated team is committed to delivering high-quality healthcare and supporting the health, wellbeing, and independence of the people in our community.
We offer five permanent rest home-level beds in our welcoming boutique facility, providing personalised rest home-level care in a friendly, home-like environment. We also have two respite care beds available for those recovering from illness or surgery, or for caregivers who would benefit from a well-deserved break.
At Tuapeka Community Health, we believe every resident deserves to enjoy a high quality of life. Our focus is on creating a supportive, safe, and comfortable environment where residents are encouraged to maintain their independence wherever possible. We value each resident as an individual and are committed to treating everyone with dignity, respect, patience, and compassion.
Recreation, social connection, and enjoyment are an important part of daily life in our rest home. Our Activities Coordinator leads a varied and engaging programme designed to suit a range of interests and abilities. Residents regularly enjoy outings in our rest home van, including visits to local cafés, lunches in nearby towns, and participation in community activities.
We are continually investing in our facility to ensure the highest standards of care and comfort. In June 2025, our rest home underwent a refresh with new interior décor, fresh paint throughout, and the addition of a beautiful new dining suite. These improvements reflect our ongoing commitment to providing a warm, welcoming environment that residents are proud to call home.
At Tuapeka Community Health, we strive for excellence in care, comfort, and companionship, supporting our residents to live with dignity, purpose, and enjoyment in their later years.

Other Key Information
It's not unusual to want to know more about payments and meals. We also invite you to explore the special features and activities we offer. If you have any other questions, please reach out, we’d love to hear from you!
Details about meals
Most residents get breakfast in bed. Residents who choose to get up have breakfast in the dining room at 8 am. You may stay in your dressing gown if you choose to.
The meals are of a consistently high standard. The day's main meal is served at 12 midday, including a main course and sometimes a dessert. Tea is served at 5:00 pm, consisting of soup, a light main dish and fresh fruit. If any meal does not suit you, please let Management know. They are only too happy to discuss food preferences with the residents.
Morning and afternoon tea is served in the dining room at 10 am and 3 pm. Supper is served in your rooms at 7:30 pm.
Beverages are offered with all meals. Cups of tea are available to residents at any time. Residents are surveyed periodically to gauge their perception of the meal service. The results of these surveys are then integrated into our Quality Improvement programme.
Special features
Having only five permanent residents allows us to provide very personalised care. Our boutique rest home offers a family-like atmosphere that you won’t find in larger facilities. At TCH, you are not just a number; our caregivers take the time to chat and get to know each resident personally.
Our residents enjoy breakfast in bed and rise at their leisure. They are neither rushed nor forced to get out of bed at a specific time.
Our food is exquisite! Our talented cook previously owned one of Lawrence's busy cafes, and is now part of our team.
We take an active interest in the recreation and entertainment of our residents. Because of our small numbers, we can easily go on individual trips and group outings. You will often see us out and about in our TCH van.
Interests & activities
The activities program is organised by the Activities Coordinator and is updated regularly. Each resident's preferences are assessed individually, ensuring their unique interests are included in the program.
Activities are designed to accommodate a range of participation levels and interests. While participation in the Activities Program is voluntary, it plays a crucial role in promoting socialisation, mental and physical stimulation, and fostering a general sense of vitality. If residents have specific interests, they are encouraged to share them so they can be incorporated into the program whenever possible.
