About Kenwyn Rest Home

Kenwyn Home was established as a rest home for the elderly in 1963 by the Open Brethren Assemblies. Trevor & Doreen Beer bought Kenwyn in February 2009 and it now provides Dementia and Hospital care as well as Rest Home.

Details about meals

Nutritious, well balanced meals are provided that have been approved by a qualified dietician. The breakfast is served in the residents room, the main meal is served at midday and a lighter meal for dinner. We like all residents to come to the dining room for the main meal, however, they may choose to have evening meals in their rooms.

Our Catering Manager has “Food Safety” Qualifications from Wintec.
We cater for specialised dietary needs as well as providing alternatives as requested.

Interests & activities

INTERESTS AND ACTIVITIES
Kenwyn employ four Diversional Therapists who organise and assist with games, outings and entertainment. Our Therapists also assist with tasks such as personal letter writing if required.

Shopping trips to Te Aroha township every week for those who are ambulant. For small needs, such as toothpaste, sweets, batteries, tissues, there is a shop run by the Activities Co-ordinator out of the Therapy Room in the Main House. All items are sold at cost.

Card games, especially uno is enjoyed by some residents
Bingo is a regular game played. Prizes provided by the home.

Church groups visit their parishioners regularly, and the different Church groups rotate the taking of Sunday Service.

Craft groups are held weekly.

Digital camera is used to record birthdays, special events and fun moments. These can be emailed to family if the resident wishes.

Email and mail from family and friends is assisted and encouraged.

Entertainers, concert groups, school groups and others regularly come into the home to entertain.

Fax and photocopying facilities are available to all residents at a small charge.

We have park-like grounds for our residents to enjoy.

Meals are available to Residents families at a cost of $7.00 per meal, bookings required the previous day if possible

Minibus available with lifter. This is used for outings, transportation to appointments, or sometimes a drive in the country.

COMMUNITY
We have a strong relationship with Community Groups from School Children to older persons. We encourage and support our residents to continue with their outside interests and activities, clubs etc.

Mail

An outgoing mail box is located in the main foyer and is cleared daily at 4.00pm. Stamps and stationery may be purchased from the residents’ shop from the Activities Co-ordinator. Incoming mail is delivered to residents Monday to Saturday.
