About Harbour View Rest Home

Harbour View Rest Home logo

Harbour View Rest Home overlooks the beautiful Oamaru Harbour and the iconic Oamaru historic area.
The beautiful building was originally built as a care home in 1897. It has undergone many changes and improvements during it's 125 years, but has retained that lovely feeling of an 'old home'. The views from our lounges are magnificent. We face the sun as well as the view.
Harbour View is an 18 bed secure unit and 26 bed rest home facility.
We pride ourselves on providing a homely environment where our residents feel loved, respected and well cared for.
Our residents love the meals provided by our on-site kitchen. Everything is cooked and prepared by our 2 cooks with quality, freshness and taste being their top priorities.

Special features

Harbour View is an owner-operated service.

The building has always been a care facility that was originally owned and operated by the Waitaki District Health Board. It was been fully refurbished in 2017 to a high standard whilst retaining many of the features of a 125 year old building. The wide entry foyer leads into two wings with bedrooms leading off it. A newer wing leads out to the front of the building. There is also a downstairs wing which caters for more independent residents, they have their own lounge bathroom, toilet and there are 5 bedrooms. The dining room, kitchen and main offices are in the centre of the complex. Furnishings and decoration are homely towards heritage in style and this gives Harbour View the feeling of a gracious home of years gone by.

The grounds are spacious and well maintained with the central rose garden being a real picture during the rose growing season. A driveway circling the rose garden allows for easy and safe loading and unloading of vehicles.

Harbour View has one of the best views in the region. The comings and goings in the area can be easily observed as we are not too far away from the action. There has been many additions to the harbour area in recent times and there is always some activity to observe.
