Service Description
Cancer Society Auckland Northland

Here to support you and your whānau through cancer — from diagnosis, through treatment, and into recovery.

Support Line – Cancer Information Helpline

Going through cancer can feel overwhelming, and it often raises many questions. Our Cancer Information Helpline is a free service for anyone affected by cancer — people with cancer, their family/whānau, friends, the general public, and health professionals.

Our experienced Cancer Support Nurse Specialists can answer any cancer related question in clear, easy to understand language. All conversations are confidential.

For answers, support, or simply someone to talk to, call us free on 0800 CANCER (226 237) Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm

One on One Support – Community Nursing

Our Community Nursing Service provides personalised support across Auckland and Northland. Our Cancer Support Nurse Specialists can visit or phone you at home to offer practical information, guidance, and emotional support at any stage — newly diagnosed, during treatment, or after treatment.
Nurses work across the entire region, including in partnership with Primary Health Organisations and Māori Health Providers in Northland.
We can help you with:

• Understanding your cancer and the treatment you may receive
• Managing symptoms and treatment side effects
• Navigating the hospital system and knowing what to expect
• Talking through concerns and questions important to you and your whānau
• Coordinating with your healthcare team to support smooth care
• Connecting you with Cancer Society services
• Finding other community supports that may help
• Practical challenges, such as transport to treatment or accessing benefits

Psychology and Counselling

A cancer diagnosis can bring many emotions. Our psychologists and counsellors are here to support you and your family/whānau to cope with the impact of cancer.

We offer free one on one and group sessions for anyone affected by cancer — whether you’ve just been diagnosed, are in treatment, or have completed treatment.

Support may include:

• Talking through the emotional impact of cancer
• Strengthening communication and relationships
• Developing coping strategies
• Supporting whānau members

Webinar Series: We also run free online cancer support talks via Zoom every second Thursday, 10:00am–11:30am. Learn practical strategies to help you cope — from the comfort of home.

Accommodation – Domain Lodge

Many people need to travel long distances for cancer treatment in Auckland. Domain Lodge provides a welcoming, modern, self catering “home away from home” for people who live more than 100km from Auckland and need to stay close to treatment.
Guests may bring one support person (18+). Set in peaceful gardens near Auckland City Hospital, Domain Lodge is close to public transport, shops, and the Auckland Domain.

While priority is given to people with cancer, accommodation is also available to the public. Income from public bookings helps us provide fully subsidised stays for people undergoing treatment.

Transport to Treatment – Volunteer Driving Service

Getting to treatment can be challenging. Our free driving service may be able to help.

Trained volunteer drivers can pick you up from home, take you to your treatment appointment, and bring you safely home again. All volunteers complete interviews, police checks, orientation, and ongoing training.

This service is available for people who:

• Have no other transport options
• Are socially isolated
• Are financially constrained
• Need support getting to treatment safely

Description
Description
Since 1929, the Cancer Society has supported people with cancer and their whānau. Cancer Society Auckland Northland is the largest of the six regional divisions, supporting more than one third of New Zealand’s population from Domain Lodge in Auckland and Daffodil House in Whangārei.
We provide free emotional and practical support, fund lifesaving cancer research, and advocate for policies that reduce cancer risk and improve cancer care. As our communities grow, we are expanding our services and reach across the Auckland Northland region so more people can access support closer to home.

If you want, I can also create a shorter version, a more emotive version, or a CTA‑driven version depending on where you plan to use it. Would you like a short version, emotive version, or CTA_version?Here is a refreshed, polished version of your copy — clear, supporter‑centred, and strongly anchored to the Footprint partnership. I’ve shaped it to read smoothly as a single narrative you can drop into any channel (EDM, webpage, brochure).
