Pohlen Hospital is a Charitable Trust Hospital which strives to provide appropriate health care of a high standard for the people of Matamata and the surrounding community.
Our commitment is to our patients and our goal is to assist you and your loved ones in any capacity you require. Our friendly professional staff will take the time to get to know you and your family, so your care can be personalized and you can be sure that your wishes respected.

We are situated in the heart of Matamata, with lovely gardens and views of the Kaimai Ranges. We have single rooms with ensuites and share rooms, all of which have outdoor access.

Registered Nurse 200 Yes 24 hour cover with clinical leader available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. We support new entry to practice nurses.

Enrolled Nurse 40 Yes Rostored shifts alongside registered nurse on morning and afternoon otherwise a second registered nurse.
Healthcare Assistants/Caregivers Yes We fully support staff to complete level 3 health and wellbeing course, and we currently have 6 health care assistants at this level.
Physiotherapist Yes Physiotherapist is available onsite for assessment and treatment.
Occupational Therapist Yes Contracted OT brought in as required.
Social Worker (on site) Yes Contracted on an as needs basis.
Diversional Therapist Yes 5 days a week 10.00 - 3.30pm Monday - Friday. Extra cover on special occasions.
Hairdresser Yes Local hairdressers come to the hospital.
Podiatrist Yes Visiting podiatrist onsite 3 days per week.
Dietitian Yes All menus are regularly audited by a Dietician and modified seasonally. The dietitian will be consulted if required for individual patient needs.
Accredited Visitors Yes A number of community volunteers visit and read to patients, sing play muusical instruments. The local primary school also provides entertainment.
Kaumatua Yes Can visit on request.
Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor Yes Chaplains visits weekly and services are also held in the lounge.
Other Personnel Yes Local singers visit each month to entertain the residents.

Stroke Rehabilitation Yes Waikato District Health board have funded rehabilitation clients for allocated amount of time. The focus of Pohlen Hospital is to enhance the individuals ability to perform daily living tasks and will liase with the funding agent for the client.
Tracheotomy Care Yes With supportive discharge planning from DHB.

Infection Control Yes A designated infection control nurse on team.

Monthly meetings of the Arthritis Society available in Matamata, RSA within walking distance/in a wheelchair, cards, email access will be provided by office staff, exercises twice weekly, raised garden beds, views of lovely gardens, happy hour, able to access pool at town complex, good library facilities in the town, newspaper reading, quizzes, videos, outings (if a special event is on we will arrange for residents to attend).
