Established in 1971 Wharerangi is one of Taupo’s most trusted care home. Only a couple of blocks from the City Centre and the lake front, it is in a prime Taupo location handy to all the shops and services you could want.

Our brand new villas are afforable and incorporate many features that make everyday life easy and enjoyable. This includes a spacious, versatile open plan layout perfect for dining, relaxing and entertaining friends and family.

Wharerangi has a friendly and close-knit community feel where neighbours are always on hand for a quick wave or a friendly chat.

Wharerangi offers a home cleaning and linen laundry service to help make life even easier. With the Care facility nearby, you can order freshly cooked meals whenever you don’t feel like cooking.

Residents can choose to join in our regular events and outings to local and regional places of interest*. The Village Community Centre is also a great place to socialise, and with comfy indoor seating you can enjoy it all year round. Catch up with friends while looking across the Kaimanawa reserve and the lake, or watch a movie on the big screen TV with SKY. With a fully appointed Kitchen this space is perfect for village activities. You can even book for social club meetings and personal functions.

Taupo town centre is a 5 – 10 minute walk on flat footpaths, and features a post office, supermarkets, banks, movie theatre, local library, retail stores, Health Services, cafés, restaurants and more. The local Cosmopolitan Club and R.S.A. are nearby and popular with the residents. A number of Churches are within walking distance or a short drive away.

Out of town visitors have the choice of a variety of accommodation options just around the corner from the Village.

Designed by award winning architects our new 2 bedroom Villas feature open plan living and dining. The kitchens are custom fitted with range hood, hob and dishwasher, and there is plenty of pantry and storage space as well as a convenient breakfast bar.

The spacious bedrooms can fit a Queen or two single beds, and have large double wardrobes. The master suite opens out onto a sunny patio. Other features include: internal garage, emergency call buttons, smoke alarm, heat pumps and double glazing.

Our 1 bedroom villas feature open plan living and dining. A custom fitted kitchen with modern applicances. A spacious bedroom with double wardrobe. There is a sunny patio from the lounge for outdoor living. Other features include: Emergency call button & heat pump.

Minimum age of entry for residents is 70 years.
It’s less than half the size of the village I’d lived in before, but it feels like I have more space. And you get the sun all day which is nice. The location was another big drawcard. My friends say isn’t it fantastic that I’m just two blocks from town. The RSA, my doctor, the shops – they’re all within walking distance. There’s a big park at the lake end of the street and from my patio I can see the mountains. I felt comfortable here right from the start.

NOTE: The Retirement Villages Act 2003 (The Act) is designed to provide improved protection for people who ‘buy’ into a retirement village. If you intend to ‘purchase’ you must get independent legal advice before signing your occupation right agreement as required under The Act. Some Retirement Village type facilities are not required to register under The Act so different legal requirements apply. Please make sure you investigate fully.

In some villages there may be some Retirement Village units that have multiple uses e.g. a Serviced Apartment may also be used as a Residential Care Suite. The same unit may therefore show in several places on Eldernet.
