End of Life/Palliative Care Yes We provide palliative care. The Clinical Manager has had several years of experience in this field and is on duty for assistance five days a week. The Clinical Manager and RN's have had education in the field of palliative care.

Under 65 yrs with Disability Yes On a case by case basis. This is usually arranged with the social workers at the Oamaru Hospital and the NASC team in Dunedin
Day Care Yes Can be arranged as required by the individual.
Palliative Care Contract Yes We do accept palliative care residents.
Other End of Life/Palliative Care Yes We do accept palliative care residents.
Whanau Room Yes We have a Family/Whanau room available which has tea and coffee making facilities, comfortable seating, TV and a large fold out couch/bed.
Rooms (Single) Yes Every room at Observatory Village care centre is a single room with full ensuite.
Ensuite Yes The ensuites include a walk-in shower, vanity and toilet. Lovely and spacious, able to have a wheelchair or shower chair in the shower.
May Bring Own Furniture Yes Rooms are furnished but we are happy for residents to bring in their favourite pieces. We encourage them to bring in their photos, paintings, lazy boys and anything that makes it feel more like home.
Alcohol Permitted Yes We have 'happy hour' twice a week in the Classic Lounge as a social event. Alcohol where appropriate is permitted in Resident's Rooms.
Phone Access In Own Room Yes Residents can choose to have their own telephone line -just like at home. They are responsible for the monthly line rental and call costs. There could also be a set up charge.
Resident can adjust heating in own room Yes We have underfloor heating. Some residents choose to have a heater in their room. If heaters are brought in by a resident these need to be checked before being used. If they require "electrical tagging" this cost will be on-charged to the resident.
Residents Committee No There are residents meetings monthly.
Family Committee No We encourage families to be involved with the Residents care and ask them to assist with information for the Resident's care plan.
Newsletter Yes Newsletters are sent to next of kin.
Policy for management of challenging behaviour Yes There is a policy and staff are educated on dealing with challenging behaviour.
Confused Residents Yes We do take confused residents and they can stay with us for as long as they and their families are happy with the care. We will recommend that they be moved if their condition deteriorates and their (or others) safety becomes a concern.
Lounges/seating areas Yes There are two large dining and lounge facilities - both with large flat screen TV's. The community centre has a library with two computer stations. There are lots of lovely outdoor seating areas to enjoy the sun.
Outings Yes We have an 11 seater van and station wagon for various outings. Also special outings for lunches or afternoon teas. We will try to get the residents out to places they show an interest in going to.
Rural Setting No We have views of the sea and the Kakanui mountain range.
Smoking Permitted Yes Residents have the right to smoke. Not many do and if one does smoke they can only do this outside and for as long as they are safe.
Sprinklers Yes We have a full sprinkler system installed which is monitored by the specialists.

Special Features
Rendell on Reed is a 55 bed rest home/hospital that is made up of 2 "wings". Although we are next to the Catholic Church we are an interdenominational home.
Original Wing was built in the early 1900's and was used as a convent. It still has original features like stained glass windows and ornate ceilings.
The Classic Wing was built in 1999 and was purpose built. All rooms on Classic have ensuite facilities.
We have views of the sea from a number of vantage points and the home is bright, light and spacious.

Details re Meals Our meals are delicious! All food is prepared in our own kitchen on the premises. We can cater for different dietary needs such as diabetics and vegetarians. We also provide meals for the community via Meals on Wheels catering.
Staffing Details We have seven full time Registered Nurses, leading a team of dedicated Care staff. Training Care Staff to deliver excellent care is an important focus for Rendell on Reed.
Associated Complexes We are right next to the Catholic Church but we are inter-dominational
Fees Details/Fees Do Not Include Full fees and what the fees do not include can be accessed by ringing Rendell on Reed and asking for a pack to be sent out. Due to the government changing the cap for Subsidy payment it is difficult to give this information in this forum.

Inter denominational Yes Whilst we are not affiliated to any one religion we do have services on a monthly basis. These are shared on a rotational basis among different churches in Oamaru.
