Description
"Kapiti Rest Home is our Residents' home" - we provide a safe, family environment where each Resident's physical, mental and spiritual needs are paramount to the Management and Staff. Kapiti Rest Home is certified and is able to accept both private paying and subsidised Residents. We believe the essential components of "home" are ....safety and companionship, challenge and fun, purpose and recognition, respect and dignity. We want our home to be an environment where each Resident enjoys a lifestyle which they recognise as their own.

Registered Nurse Yes The managers (Heather and Barbara) are both registered nurses. One is on site each weekday, and on call at all other times.
Healthcare Assistants/Caregivers No All cares are given by experienced and caring staff. Staff are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week plus an extra person is on-call overnight every night.

Own Social Worker Negotiable We will arrange for a Social Worker to visit if a Resident would like one.
Diversional Therapist Yes Our Diversional Therapists works with each Resident to co-ordinate activities, outings, spiritual, and exercise programmes.

Hairdresser Yes Hairdresser once a week, or you can arrange our hairdresser to come in on different days for special occasions
Podiatrist Yes The Podiatrist visits once a quarter or more regularly if someone needs more care
Dietitian Yes The Dietician visits and consult at least once a year to advice and overview our menus.
Accredited Visitors Yes We have regular visitors from Age Concern, Foundation for the Blind, Altzheimers. We are more than happy to include additional visitors on our "open invitation" list.
Kaumatua Negotiable We are happy to arrange for a local Kaumatua to visit the home.
Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor Yes A christian based minister visits once a month or more if requested. We are happy to arrange to connect a Resident with the spiritual advisor of their choice and religion.

Residents Committee Yes This comes and goes dependant on the current Residents wishes. We regularly ask for input/ideas from Residents, their friends and family with regard to how qweel the Rest Home caters for thier needs and wishes.

Confused Residents Yes Yes some of our Residents are confused, but we help untangle the confusion for Resident's as best we can. Our staff are extremely patient and want each Resident to feel secure and in control of their lives as much as possible.

Outings Yes Our Diversional therapists organise regular group and individual outings. Our staff also try to include Resident's in the running of typical houshold errands where they want to be involved.

Semi-Secure No Our building is locked at night and we have a security procedure but our Residents are welcome to come and go as they are able.

Big print books are available from the weekly visits from the Mobile Library.,

We have a well designed Activity programme which caters for diverse interests and for varying capabilities.
Bingo, Board games, Bridge, Cards, Care and Craft, Cooking, Craft, Entertainment, Exercises, Flower arranging, Games, Happy Hour, Housie, Jigsaw, Outings, Petanque, Pianist, Quizzes, Sing-a-longs, are some of the activities that our resident Recreational Therapist organises in co-ordination with our Residents. Suggestions for new things to try are always welcome.,

Visitors: Your visitors are welcome to come any time you wish. You can entertain them in your own room or in one of the two lounges, you can even invite them to dinner.,

Vegetarian diets are catered for by our cooks.

Shopping trips are arranged with our Recreational Therapist.,

A classical Pianist who is happy to play requests visits the home regularly.,

We celebrate Nationally observed Anniversaries and Personal milestones with Parties designed for the occasion.,

Men and Women live at Kapiti Rest Home, currently we have an equal gender mix.,

Meal choices are made by talking to the Cooks when they are preparing the weekly menu.,

You are able to have Holidays when ever you wish, likewise you are able to come to us for a holiday.,

Children are welcome to visit you at the home, you can even take them down to the popular children's Paraparaumu Amusement Park 5 minutes walk up the road.,

Canine friends. We can't really fit dogs into the home, however we do have a few with visiting rights.,
