|Cambridge Resthaven provides a continuum of quality, personalised care. We respect the dignity and individual rights of our multicultural society. We demonstrate a caring manner. We strive for excellence in service delivery. We will advocate for those in our care. We don’t want people just to exist but to experience quality of life.
Cambridge Resthaven was built with the money raised by the community and is run by the Cambridge Resthaven Trust Board.
Our vision is to 'Provide a way of life that exceeds the individuals expectations'. Over recent years many changes have occurred in the area of care for older people. Cambridge Resthaven has continued to respond to these changes with the implementation of appropriate services. We now provide support for those who; remain in their own homes, live in our cottages, apartments, rest home, MEU and hospital.
Our facilities are well maintained and upgrades completed so that we continue to play a major role in the support of the elderly residents of Cambridge and districts.
We are well resourced and have appropriate equipment such as electric beds and lifting hoists to ensure resident safety.
The Quiet Room deemed the 'Icing on the Cake' for Resthaven. The Quiet Room is large enough to hold 120 people yet the way in which it is partitioned makes it small enough for a quiet think. It is available for religious services, concerts, weddings and funerals and used as an activities room for residents.
Fundraising for a rest home in Cambridge was started in 1964 by the members of the Fencourt Country Womens Institute. The seed was sown at their August meeting when their President Mrs Sheila Pidduck, ‘spoke on the suggestion of raising funds for the building of flats in Cambridge for the elderly and asked members to think about it during the next month”. “Naturally it will be a long term project,” she said “but women’s organisations have shown in the past that when they set their minds on a definite aim, nothing is impossible”.
How true those words were. The project caught the attention of local people and what eventuated was to be the towns first Resthome which opened in 1972.
Following Mrs Pidducks thought provoking words the journey began with an early bequest made by Miss Alice Hanlin and the establishment of the Cambridge Resthaven Trust. Widespread community support was demonstrated by the range of organisations represented on the inaugural Trust Board i.e. Lions, Rotary, RSA, Federated Farmers, Federation of Country Women’s Institutes, Borough Council.
A story is told by Robin Harris when he recalled “…a holiday he took to Canada when he was asked by his host –‘What would you like to see?” and Robin replied,” An old people’s home”. Not a usual request one might think but an example of how enthused people were about the project.
In 1971 a dedicated group of Cambridge citizens formed a committee to be known as The Friends of Resthaven, for the purpose of assisting the Cambridge Resthaven Trust Board in the welfare and happiness of the elderly. “The first job the committee had to do was to contact every club and group in Cambridge, whether small or large, and there were over 100 of these!! All were asked to help and I cannot remember one refusal said the Chairman.

THE FRIENDS OF RESTHAVEN
The Friends of Resthaven play an important part in the life of the elderly at Resthaven. Its philosophy is that happiness and enjoyment of later life shall be fulfilled. The Friends welcome you and your family to Resthaven and would like to enlist your support in our endeavours.
Activities of The Friends include:
· Morning tea's and entertainment
· Resident’s birthday is acknowledged by a small gift and a visit by The Friends of Resthaven.
· Annual fund raising.
· Assisting with purchases of equipment and personalised items that provide comfort to our residents.
The role of The Friends of Resthaven is one of support to:
· The elderly and their families
· The Resthaven Trust board and the Staff
There are bi-monthly meetings of the committee and an Annual General Meeting and election of Officers is held in June each year.
Visitors are welcome at any time, preferably between 10am and 8pm to ensure privacy and quiet time for our residents. There are tea/coffee making facilities for visitors. If residents would like family members to join them for a meal this can be arranged with the staff on duty. The meal is charged at $10.20. The facility can be utilised for family celebrations also.

Our full and varied programme runs all day. Our commitment to this is demonstrated by our engagement of three Diversional Therapists.
The following gives an indication of the types of interests and activities found at Resthaven:
Stroke Club, Care and Craft, Senior Citizens, concerts, special men's outings, bingo, bowls. Visiting chaplain, devotions, and weekly church services. Sing-a-longs, daily exercise sessions. Email, Alzheimer’s Society, Service men/women, activities for children, cards, entertainment, external entertainers/pianist/singing groups, garden, happy hour, indoor games, library, cooking/baking, videos, music, views, newspaper reading, quizzes, shopping, sky TV, (television is available in the lounges and residents who have single rooms are welcome to have their own small television), MS Society. Pet therapy visits, cafe visits, pub visits, garden visits.
‘The Waikato Times’ is available for residents to read daily but if residents would like their own copy of papers these can be be ordered and are paid for by the resident. 'The Cambridge Edition' and 'Cambridge News' is freely available for those who enjoy it.
Our grounds are easily accessible for those who like to walk or wheel themselves outside.

|Details re Meals||We provide a varied menu that is approved by a dietitian, We make every effort to provide residents with any special requests or needs. Meal hours are as follows: Breakfast 7.30am - 9.00am available in Resthome dining room. MEU - 7.30am - 9.00am whenever suits the resident. Hospital - in the residents bedroom around 8.00am Dinner between 12.00 noon and 1pm in dining rooms Tea between 5.00pm and 5.45pm in dining rooms. Morning, afternoon tea and supper are available. A happy hour is held in the resthome lounge prior to tea each day. In the hospital and MEU, happy hour is held weekly.|
|Staffing Details||Cambridge Resthaven is well staffed as part of the commitment to quality care. The team includes CEO, GM, 2 Clinical Nurse Leaders, Staff Educator, Registered Nurses, Team Leaders and H.C.A.'s. As we provide a continuum of care we always have at least one Registered Nurse on duty. Our team of nurses and caregivers assist residents with all their personal care needs, encouraging our residents to maintain as much independence as possible, in particular we encourage mobility and self care. Our Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist provide a support and maintenance programme for our residents. Residents may retain the service of their own General Practitioner (GP) Cambridge based. Hospital level of care residents will be seen monthly. Your GP fees are included in the fee. Residents are welcome to ask their GP to visit more often, however this will be at their own expense. Referrals to specialists are arranged as required but any specialist fees are not included in the general expense. Medication is provided and administered as requested by the doctor and if prescribed is included in the fee. Any medications of personal choice or non-subsidised medications will be charged to the individual resident. In general, all medication is administered by the Nurse on duty, but if requested and agreed by the GP, resident may look after their own medication needs. We ask those who are taking non-prescribed or household remedies to tell the Nurse so that the GP can check for any possible reactions with prescribed medication. Our cleaning is contracted to ISS and they make very effort to provide an environment that is clean and homely for all our residents within pleasant surroundings.|

The fee does not cover personal items of clothing and toiletries, dentures, glasses, hearing aids, razors, batteries or special items of equipment or specialist medical appointments or x-rays.
