Greg & Susan Pritchard took ownership of Bryant House in November 2007 when they moved back to Hawkes Bay from Australia to be closer to family. Greg’s parents had owned and managed aged care facilities since the mid 90’s which is where Greg first became exposed to the industry. With the Global Financial Crisis impacting the region hard Greg believed they needed to stick to something the family knew and understood which lead to the acquisition of Bryant House Retirement Home.
When the Pritchard’s acquired Bryant House it was a 33 bed rest home, residents were more independent, some of whom even required a car park as they were still driving. Greg recalls the last resident to drive themselves to Bryant House was in 2010, things have certainly changed since then.
With resident acuity levels on the increase and early-stage dementia becoming a common reason for people moving into care, it seemed logical to transition part of Bryant House into a Dementia facility, thus providing a safer, more secure environment for residents as their dementia progressed.
“By expanding our service delivery to incorporate Dementia, residents who had called Bryant House home for years could continue to do so as their needs changed”. This was a turning point for Bryant House and the most significant improvement we have made to date where residents, family members and staff have all benefited by reducing the anxiety of transferring to a new care facility.
Currently Bryant House can provide care for 16 rest home and 17 dementia residents. However, to effectively keep pace with the evolving needs of residents Greg and the Clinical team realise they need to further expand the service delivery to include a “high care” model referred to as hospital level care.
To achieve this a new, purpose-built care facility is being built that will provide true continuity of care incorporating serviced apartments, rest home, dementia and hospital levels of care.
