Brightwater Home is relaxed, friendly and full of life. Residents enjoy the engaging atmosphere and companionship of others at a similar stage of life. Situated in Terrace End, Palmerston North, Brightwater Home is set among attractive grounds with courtyards, established trees and beautiful gardens.

OUR PHILOSOPHY
Brightwater Home, like all Enliven Central homes, embraces an elder directed model of care called the Eden Alternative.

This means we work to ensure the elders of Brightwater Home have companionship, variety and spontaneity, fun, meaningful activity and purpose in their lives. It ensures that elders are involved in decisions that relate to both their personal wellbeing and what happens at their home.

Here, residents are supported to maintain their independence and routines, and to continue with hobbies, interests and passions, in a way that’s right for the individual.

OUR PEOPLE
Our staff are not only highly trained, they’re also friendly, caring and embrace our elder-directed philosophy of care.

At Brightwater Home, in addition to rest home care we also provide dementia care and hospital level services. This means we have nurses on-duty 24-hours-a-day. The doctor also visits regularly and we are in regular contact to ensure all clinical needs are met.

Enliven’s Brightwater Home offers rest home, dementia and hospital level care services, as well as short term respite, health recovery care and an engaging day programme.

As an Enliven home we’re proud to be more than just ‘family friendly’. At Brightwater Home, your family is part of our family. After all, family, friends and the community play a big part in life here.

At Brightwater, you’ll find there are no set visiting times; you can invite your grandchildren, family and friends to visit at any time. Plus we have a great toy box and games to keep the little ones entertained!

You may like to invite family or friends to join in the special events and social outings organised by Brightwater Home. And of course, family and friends are always welcome to join you for a meal.

Registered Nurse 24/7 Yes Barbara our Clinical Manager, and Debbie and Chris our Clinical Co-ordinators, are all Registered Nurses. We provide 24 hour Registered Nurses who have training in Care of the Elderly.

Healthcare Assistants/Caregivers 24/4 Yes Our Caregivers have or are undertaking training through CareerForce in Care of the Elderly Level 3. Some caregivers have also achieved or are studying towards the CareerForce specialised Dementia Unit.

Own Social Worker No We do not have our own social worker but the staff will assist you or your family to contact one.
Diversional Therapist Yes Sharon organises a varied Activities Program which is offered to residents from 10.30am-5pm in the very large Chadwick Lounge during the week.
Activities Co-ordinator Yes We have activity staff and volunteers who assist Sharon with the activities program.
Hairdresser Yes We have a visiting hairdresser or you can continue to use your own. Your family may also choose to take you out to a salon of your choice.
Podiatrist Yes A podiatrist comes into Brightwater every six weeks but if you wish you may continue to use your own.
Dietitian Yes Our menu is reviewed on a regular basis by a dietitian to ensure it meets the health needs of the older person. She is also involved in special diets and tube feeding if required.
Kaumatua No We do not have an on-site Kaumatua but staff will assist you if you wish with this.
Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor Yes Weekly interdenominational services for residents are held in our onsite chapel. The chapel is always available for services or residents or family quiet time. Amy is our visiting chaplain. Communion is offered regularly. All faiths are always welcome.
Other Personnel No Colleen our administrator, Michelle our receptionist, and Andrew our handyman/gardener. Lola is head cook and she and the staff provide delicious and nutritious meals while the manager supervises our cleaning and laundry staff.

Semi-Secure Yes Brightwater has a stage three secure dementia unit for those who may wander out of the facility. Our hospital wing is not secure.

A highlight for many residents is the social life and companionship at Brightwater Home. As well as enjoying the company of others at a similar stage of life, Brightwater Home residents get involved in organising daily happenings and special events – making the most of the varied social calendar.

We have a wide range of interest groups. Regular activities and events include sight-seeing trips, guest entertainers, craft, themed parties and gardening.

Details re Meals Each day we provide our residents their breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and snacks. We’ll make sure you always have plenty of delicious food to enjoy. Our menus are co-designed by a dietician and chef to ensure there is plenty of diversity and that your meals are nutritious and satisfying, made right on-site. We encourage you to enjoy your meals in the dining room with your friends. Morning and afternoon tea is served around the home and snacks and fruit are always available in the dining room or kitchenettes.
Staffing Details Brightwater is staffed by those people who wish to provide the best possible quality care for the older population who can no longer remain in their own homes.
