Enliven’s Kandahar Home is homely and welcoming; residents enjoy the engaging atmosphere and spacious grounds. Situated in the Masterton suburb of Lansdowne, this character home is close to town yet has a relaxing semi-rural outlook.

Kandahar Home offers rest home and hospital care, as well as health recovery, and an engaging day programme. While Kandahar Home is able to support people with memory loss and early dementia symptoms, our sister site, Kandahar Court, offers specialist dementia care in a secure environment.

At Enliven, we create age-friendly communities where people are happy and thrive regardless of their age or ability. As well as providing day-to-day support and clinical care, we take into account the physical, social, emotional, and cultural needs of each person we support.

Our elder-directed philosophy means we put residents at the heart of everything we do. When you or your loved one moves into an Enliven home, you’re joining a unique and special community. This means we work to ensure the elders of Kandahar Home have companionship, variety and spontaneity, fun, meaningful activity, and purpose in their lives. It ensures that elders are involved in decisions that relate to both their personal wellbeing and what happens at their home.

Our staff are not only highly trained, they’re also friendly, caring and embrace our elder-directed philosophy of care. Our nurses are on-duty 24-hours-a-day and the doctor also visits regularly. We are in regular contact with residents to ensure all clinical needs are met.

As an Enliven home, we’re proud to be more than just ‘family friendly’. At Kandahar Home, your family is part of our family, which means you’ll find there are no set visiting times. After all, family, friends, and the community play a big part in life here.

“This place is so homely - it doesn’t remind me of a rest home, and the staff are what makes it home here.”
– Laurie, resident.

“At Kandahar all my medical needs are taken care of and they don’t make me feel like a patient.”

“There’s always someone to talk to so I never get lonely. I’ve got people around me all the time if I want, but I can be by myself when I want as well.”
– Barbara, resident.

“Kandahar is in town but it’s a rural area. I can still see the horses in the paddock next door when I look out my window. It’s home here.”
