At Radius Hawthorne in Christchurch, advanced dementia care is about more than safety—it’s about creating a calm, welcoming home where each resident feels secure, valued, and free to be themselves.
We offer two dedicated dementia care wings: one women-only wing for those who may feel more at ease in a gender-specific setting, and one mixed-gender wing. Both are thoughtfully designed with sensory-friendly features like colour-coded doors, soft lighting, and quiet lounges that support comfort and independence. There's even a protected garden with shaded seating, ideal for peaceful time outdoors.
Spacious rooms come with en suites and kitchenettes, and large windows look out onto our award-winning gardens. Daily life is shaped around connection—through personalised care, companionship, and activities that bring meaning and joy. Residents are encouraged to stay active and engaged in ways that suit them, supported by a caring team who take the time to really know each person.
Families tell us there’s a warmth and energy at Hawthorne you can feel the moment you walk in. We’d love to welcome you in to see it for yourself.

Testimonials
I would sincerely like to convey my appreciation to the staff at St Winifred's Hospital who looked after my mother Margaret Gudsell. She resided there for over 2 years and died there on the 22nd May. I would especially like to mention Jacqui Colville, Jan Bristowe, Kathy Toumazou & Linda Fourie, for their truly professional expertise, for always listening and taking such good care of my mother. I visited my mother nearly every day, and they always made me feel very welcome. They are a special team of people at St Winifred's I'll never forget how hard they worked after the February earthquake, especially Linda, making sure all the patients were safe and warm (when the hospital had no power). I think there is a quote somewhere - 'Patient's First', your staff do this consistantly. Your staff really are a tremendous asset to your organisation. |

What's New
Taking a Trip Down Memory Lane: Residents from Hawthorne Enjoy a Ride in an Old Holden Kingswood Hawthorne residents recently enjoyed a nostalgic drive in a classic 1970 2.6L Holden Kingswood, reminiscent of the 1974 Commonwealth Games. The vintage car stirred memories of cruising through town, evoking laughter and chatter among passengers as they reminisced about the past. This outing provided a brief escape from routine, reminding everyone of the enduring connections to our history. As the ride concluded, a sense of gratitude lingered, highlighting the timeless allure of the old Holden Kingswood and the cherished memories it evokes. |
