Under 65 yrs with Disability Yes On a case by case basis. This is usually arranged with the social workers at the Oamaru Hospital and the Care Co-ordination team in Dunedin

Whanau Room Yes There is a specific Whanau room where families and visitors can relax, watch TV, make a hot drink and spend the night if required.
Rooms (Single) Yes Every room at Observatory Village is a single room.
Ensuite Yes All rooms have a full ensuite with toilet, shower and hand basin, vanity unit, mirror, towel rail, and hooks
May Bring Own Furniture Yes Rooms are furnished with a hospital bed with pressure relieving mattress, bed side cabinet, chest of drawers, wardrobe, lazy boy recliner and a visitors chair. Residents are welcome to bring in photos, and small items.
Alcohol Permitted Yes We have 'happy hour' on a Friday in the Community Centre. Alcohol where appropriate is permitted in Resident's Rooms.
Pets In Residence Yes We have the gorgeous 'Rusty' - our facility cat who is friendly and loveable.
Phone Access In Own Room Yes Residents can choose to have a phone in their room. We organise the installation through our phone system for a monthly charge.

Resident can adjust heating in own room Yes The whole building has underfloor heating. There are also radiator panels in each resident's room which can be manually adjusted

Confused Residents Yes We do take confused residents and they can stay with us for as long as we can manage their cares. We will consult with family if and when their condition deteriorates and their (or others) safety becomes a concern.
Lounges/seating areas Yes Observatory Village has a care centre Atrium and a community centre which all residents are welcome to use. Both lounges and the Movie room have large flat screen TV"s. All have SKY. The internal courtyard and outside areas have seating to enjoy the sun.
Outings Yes We have a new 11 seater van with a platform hoist and room for 2 wheelchairs. Outings are scheduled as part of our Activities programme.
Rural Setting No We have views of the sea and the mountains
Smoking Permitted Yes Residents have the right to smoke. Not many do, and if one does smoke they can only do this outside in allocated areas and for as long as they are safe.
Sprinklers Yes We have a full smoke detecting system and a full sprinkler system installed throughout the building, which is monitored by specialists.
Audit report available Yes Our initial partial provisional audit was completed prior to opening and we are currently fully compliant with HealthCERT requirements

Details re Meals Our meals are delicious! All food is prepared in our own kitchen on the premises. We can cater for different dietary needs such as diabetics and vegetarians.
Staffing Details Trained Staff delivering excellent care is an important focus. All caregivers are assisted to achieve Level 3 Healthcare Worker qualification
Fees Details/Fees Do Not Include Full fees and what the fees do not include can be accessed by phoning Observatory Village and asking for a pack to be sent out. Due to the government changing the cap for Subsidy payment it is difficult to give this information in this forum.

Inter denominational Yes Whilst we are not affiliated to any one religion we do have services on a monthly basis. These are shared on a rotational basis among different churches in Oamaru. We have a Chapel available within the community centre.

Parks 1.00 km Oamaru Gardens on Chelmer Street close by. Recommended viewing.
Library 1.50 km Located in the main street. Visits are made by car for Residents wishing to visit the Library.
