We have introduced a designated Maori Wing. This Wing was opened on 11 November 2014 by Dr Shane Reti MP and our Kaumatua Te Ratahi Mahanga.This is our dedicated Maori Wing. A place for our maori elders to feel comfortable in familiar surroundings. The well-being of our residents is prominent to us but just as important is to insure we provide safe cultural practises. We have a Kaumatua for assistance when needed e.g mihimihi, karakia, room blessings and advice. Staff take regular Te Reo Maori and Tikanga lessons. To insure we follow correct protocols. Our Activity programme is very extensive and includes, Age Concern, Art, Big print books, , Board games, Breakfast in bed, Bingo, Canine friends, Cards, Care and Craft, Church, Concerts, Craft, Electric beds, Email, Entertainment, Exercises, Fax, Garden, Internet, Massage, Men, Newspaper reading, Outings, Pastoral care, Vegetarian, Videos, Happy Hour, Housie, Indoor Games, Jigsaw, Library, Music, Movies, Parties, Petanque, Picnic facilities, Quizzes, RSA, , Sing-a-longs |

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES Social activities are planned and organised by our Activities Co-ordinators. We encourage residents to share in any activities they might enjoy and be able to do. We have regular entertainment, activities and sing-a-longs. Activities include: monthly RSA visits, interdenominational church services, daily exercises, daily music, daily newspaper reading (A copy of the Advocate and Herald is also available for the use of all residents), videos, outings, and massage Watch the notice board for specific information. OTHER DETAILS You may wish to order a particular magazine. This can be done through the Administration Office. Other magazines are shared throughout the hospital. You may also wish to have your own radio, television or Sky TV in your own room at your own expense. Aerials or License are not required. For those hard of hearing we suggest you use head phones with your personal television in the lounge. Mail is delivered Monday to Sunday inclusive. Staffing qualifications and details | All shifts have one Registered Nurse. We try to keep the Caregiver/Resident ratio 1:5. STAFFING STRUCTURE The Facility/Clinical Manager is responsible for the overall day to day running of Lester Heights including supervision of all staff. Registered Nurses and Hospital Care Assistants work rostered shifts to provide 24 hour care.
