Description
We provide quality Hospital, Rest Home, Respite, Convalescent and Palliative Levels of Care. We utilize the InterRai Assessment Tool, endorsed by the Ministry of Health, to assess our residents and prepare a comprehensive and personalized Long Term Care Plan, to ensure the resident recieves the most appropriate standard of care to meet their assessed needs.

This is done in consultation with the family by a registered nurse and filed online through an integrated computing system. This means the plan can be accessed and reviewed readily through different assessment agencies when needed.

The assessments and Care Planning is done within our small privately owned rest home, which has a very homely, friendly and welcoming ambience, in a country setting to meet the individualized needs of your loved ones.

We have a long history of stable, friendly, kind and caring staff so your loved ones feel right at home.

We offer this quality care in a country setting, which is noted to be very beneficial to the resident's health. We have home cooked meals, and home baked cakes, scones, muffins, slices, the aroma of which greets you as you enter the door!

Our residents have a fortnightly van ride to feed the ducks at the lake, drive around the countryside, or just to have an ice cream on a warm summer's day.

Our Activities Co-ordinator works from 9am - 2.30pm weekdays and offers, newspaper reading, exercises, paintings, some craft work, bingo, jigsaws, world affairs, walks in the garden, weekly music, etc. We have weekly church services and communion for those interested. We are happy to organize a service / visit from a minister of any denomination if needed.

We provide a range of services which include Long Term Hospital / Resthome, Short Term Respite / Convalescent Care, Day Care, for both the elderly and under 65's.

Recently Brylyn was awarded with a 2 year certification from the Waikato District Health Board, to continue providing Residential Care. We are happy to have achieved the 2 yr contract and it reflects our committment to continue providing a quality, personalized, standard of care to the community.

We are happy to answer your questions on any queries you may have regarding the full-time or respite placement of your loved ones in our warm and friendly home. If you are needing time for yourself from caring for a loved one, you can enquire with the Disability Support Link for help for respite care, or if you are recuperating after an illness or operation, and need time to recover, ring and book yourself at Brylyn Residential Care.

General Conclusion on System Performance and Compliance with the Standard
Brylyn Residential Care continues to deliver a very high standard of care to residents. On the day of the audit 28 of the 34 beds were occupied. In addition to long stay residential care the organisation also provides respite and day care. The nurse manager has been in the position since 2009. Staffing is generally stable with many staff having been employed for several years. There is one other registered nurse who works on the weekends and while the nurse manager is away.During the audit both residents and relatives were interviewed. All expressed they are very happy with the staff, in particular the nurse manager and the activities coordinator, and with all services provided.

General Overview
Brylyn Residential Care continues to provide rest home level care for up to 30 residents. On the day of the audit there were 28 residents in the facility. The rest home is situated just Northwest of Hamilton in a rural setting. The nurse manager has been at the facility since 2009 and has extensive experience in aged care. Staffing is stable and staff are well trained in their roles and responsibilities. All criteria audited are fully attained and there is evidence that improvements are ongoing.
During the audit both residents and relatives were interviewed. All expressed a high degree of satisfaction with all aspects of the service. Residents and relatives report that communication amongst staff and management is open and honest.

Hairdresser 3-4hrs Yes We have our long-term hairdresser, Emmy available every fortnight on a Monday for several hours to make our ladies and gentlemen look gorgeous. Emmy's rates are quite reasonable as well.
Podiatrist Negotiable We are happy to negotiate a Podiatrist as needed, and are in the process of acquiring the services of a suitable podiatrist.
Dietitian Yes A Dietician helps set up the winter and summer menu, and is accessible for residents requiring a Dietician's input for medical reasons.
Accredited Visitors Negotiable Brylyn Residential Care is happy to organise accredited visitors for clients needing this service.
Kaumatua Yes We are happy to organize a Kaumatua visit as needed.
Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor Yes A Vicar visits Brylyn Residential Care regularly, and Communion is offered to residents at the facility as needed. We are happy to organise a visit from any denomination minister / church if needed.

Palliative Care Contract Yes We work closely with Hospice Waikato, and utilize their expertise as needed. We have RNs 24/7 to manage Palliative Care in the facility, as well as the inhouse GP for liaison, advice and review of residents.
End of Life/Palliative Care Yes We have Registered Nurses on duty 24/7, who manage End of Life Needs in the facility, as well the oversight of the inhouse GP.

Diabetic Care Yes We manage our Diabetic residents in the facility as per the Medical Practitioner's Medical Care Plan, monitor blood sugars regularly, liaise with the GP as needed to titre insulin doses. Our cooks cater to the Diabetic Diets as needed.
Continence Advisor Yes We are in the process of organizing continence advice for all our trained / untrained staff to meet the specific requirements of our residents.
Infection Control Yes All staff are expected to adhere to the facility's Infection Control Policy, which is aligned to WHO / M.O.H policies on Infection Control. Staff have access to P.P.E's and are expected to utilize these when required , whilst minimizing wastage.
Stomal Therapist Yes We are happy to make a referral for any clients who come into care with this.
Psychiatric Care No We are happy to liaise with the GP to make referrals to a psychiatrist if needed by any resident.

Under 65 yrs with Disability Yes We are funded for those who qualify for under 65 care and private payers are accepted under this category.
Day Care Yes Day care is available 7 days/week, $40 per day. Includes main meal, morning and afternoon tea, RN / Carer oversight and intervention if needed. We have a contract with the Waikato DHB for this service and funding could be available through Waikato DHB.
Primary Health Funded Short Term Care Yes If you need short term care either private or funded through the DHB ring the Nurse Manager on 8494025 to book.

Alcohol Permitted Yes Some residents have a beer at Happy Hour, and if this has been a norm for them, then the nurse is obliged to give a little drink in the evening if needed.

Negotiate To Bring Own Pet Yes We can accomodate cats, so long as these have been vaccinated, flea treated, and up to date with any other animal requirements, disease free and friendly. We can accomodate very small dogs, so long as they stay in the resident's rooms.
Phone Access In Own Room Yes All rooms have their own phone jack and residents are welcome to have their own phones in their rooms. There is also a portable phone that residents can use .

Resident can adjust heating in own room Yes All studio rooms have their own remote to adjust their air conditioning units. Heating for the rest of the home is gas heating through vents in the floor. All residents are welcome to have their own additional heating in their room if needed.

Residents Committee Yes A quarterly Resident Meeting is organized by the Activities Co-ordinator and the Nurse Manager. The meeting minutes are recorded , issues raised discussed for resolution with the Directors / Owners, and update given back to residents.

Policy for management of challenging behaviour Yes Inhouse policy on Challenging Behaviour to be followed. Any behaviour not able to be managed at the facility, and a direct threat to other residents/ staff will be referred to the CRISIS TEAM.

We are a rest home in a semi rural environment which has a family like astmosphere. We have a cook who caters to individual needs and likes on a daily basis. Currently there is a retirement village being built around the rest home , this will comprise of 23 free standing houses.

Due to access to Te Kowhai Road being closed to allow the new motorway to be built please follow the instructions below.

Take Ruffell Road (which is off Te Rapa Road) , go over the railway line and turn right onto Onion Road, take the first left onto the new motorway. Go along motorway until you come to a round about , turn left at the round about(onto Te Kowhai Road) and the rest home is 50 metres along on your left.

Details re Meals We have a experienced cook who along with the dietican have created our menus. Our cook is happy to cater for individual needs and preferences.
Staffing Details We currently employ 25 staff who work on a rostered basis to ensure coverage of all shifts.
Fees Details/Fees Do Not Include Our daily contract rate with the Ministry of Health is $130.10, this rate is set by the Ministry of Health and is reviewed each year in July.
