About Us
At Kimihia Resthome and Hospital, we pride ourselves on offering a personal, small-community environment where the contributions of older people are valued and celebrated. Our mission is to provide compassionate, high-quality care in a setting that feels like home.

Our Story
The North Waikato Care of the Aged Trust Board, Inc. was established in 1972 as a charitable community trust—a joint initiative by the Huntly Lions, Rotary, and Jaycees Clubs. Today, the Trust continues its legacy with representation from the Huntly Community Board.

Kimihia Resthome opened its doors in March 1979, officially inaugurated by the Hon. Sir Douglas Carter, then High Commissioner to London. In 1988, the first independent living cottage was built, followed by one new cottage each year for the next five years. Fourteen years after the Resthome’s opening, Kimihia Hospital was launched in March 1993 by Dame Thea Muldoon QSO, expanding our ability to care for residents with more complex needs.
