End of Life Doulas provide non-judgemental, non-medical, holistic care, to people of all ages, and at all stages of life, including those who are advancing in age, or living with chronic or acute life-limiting illness, and those supporting them.
Services may be practical, educational, emotional, spiritual, cultural or social – depending on what the person needs at that time.
Doulas provide a continuum of care, from whichever part of the journey they come on board. Building trust, and providing compassionate, respectful care of the person in their final life’s chapter, and their whānau.
We work wherever we are needed – in a person’s home, hospice, hospital, care home - basically wherever you lay your head.

Testimonials
- “Doulas understand. They know how to make you calm, safe. If I’m having a bad day they know how to make it better. They’re a friend you can call on, who won’t say ‘I don’t want to talk about this today’. - Your visit to me, last week, has got my mind working, again and has helped me past the stale-mate I seemed to have reached. Your visit opened up my mind to all sorts of possibilities for funeral ideas and has spurred me on to re-visit the lists and booklets that I already have. Meanwhile, I have followed your suggestion of putting all the relevant 'papers' in a place that is known and easily accessible to my daughter. I'm so grateful to you for your insightful and frank leadership of our discussion. - I'm so grateful that you came along when she died. We wouldn't have known what to do, and you made it feel so right and so easy. I'm so glad we brought her 'home' for her final goodbyes before her cremation. |

Service Description
Doulas provide non-medical, holistic care, for those advancing in age, or who have life-limiting illness. We help with educating on your options, not only for how you want your death to be, and what you'd like to happen afterwards, but for how you want to live your life, and what you do or don't want to happen in an unexpected (or expected) health dilemma. Advance Care Planning. Help when you are overwhelmed by a terminal diagnosis. Being a listening presence for those difficult and deeply sacred conversations that others don't want to have. Support at doctor's meetings. Sharing knowledge about options for after death care, and meaningful and personal 'farewells' that don't cost the earth. Normalising death. Calmly walking beside you on your journey to empower you to make informed decisions. Communicating with all who are providing your care. Advocating for you to ensure your wishes are met when you can no longer communicate. |

Meeting the needs of older people
Many people who are advancing in age, avoid the inevitable. Death is going to come to us all, but we have grown accustomed to ignoring it. Opening up the conversations, and making plans for your future, allows you to live your life more fully. It is also a gift that you can give to those who love you, so that they are not buried in grief, while trying to work out what you 'would have wanted' because you never talked about it. Or just picking up the phone and calling a Funeral Director without guidance as to a more personal and fitting post-death period, which will lead to a better bereavement. Many elderly people are isolated and lonely. A Doula can help companion a person for whatever it is that will make their journey better. Supporting the whanau and those close to a person, is also of benefit. Helping to normalise the tender conversations. We build trusting relationships with our clients, enabling us to help to ensure that their wishes are met. Helping people to die at home, if that is their wish. |
