Dementia Care New Zealand is one of New Zealand’s highly regarded aged care providers.
We provide a full range of residential care including general rest home care, dementia rest home care, general hospital level care, and dementia hospital level care. At many of our facilities, a full continuum of care is available.
We specialize in person-centred care for people who live with dementia. This is the work we have passionately chosen to do.
We care for people in small, cosy homes with a loving, warm and homely atmosphere where each person is supported to experience each moment richly. Our small homes concept means that people with dementia experience life in a less clinical and more normalised, familiar way. Small homes that inter connect, also bring a sense of ‘community’ for a person with dementia.

We offer 24 hour Registered Nurse coverage to all of our residents at Tasman.

Thank you letter to all Tasman staff:

On behalf of Cushla’s family, our warmest, most sincere and deeply appreciative acknowledgement to each of you, for being Cushla’s extended whanau for the last years of her life.
The compassionate care given by you all, supported Cushla so hugely on her challenging pathway.
The fundamentals of care always provided, but also to be acknowledged are the special pursuits given to enhance her quality of life.
Cushla’s love for music was encouraged and enabled with singing and Karaoke.
Cushla always manicured and painted her nails and she always paid great attention to her hair styling. It touched the family how staff continued to pay loving attention to this.
These are just two examples of how you all expressed her individuality and supported Cushla to remain the person she was.
Cushla had to walk a very challenging pathway. We, her family and Whanau, thank each of you, and recognize you as Cushla’s extended ‘end of life’ family.
Thank you for embracing her with Aroha.

Testimonial

On the 4th of February 2019 my beloved Wife Lynley was visiting Christchurch with a friend, she was a bright articulate lady, very intelligent and throughout her life capable of achieving anything she put her mind to whether it be business, craftwork, artwork, designing gardens, selling real estate or photography, in other words a wonderful all round good person as she loved to help other people.

On the 21st of February 2019 all of that changed as she finished up in Christchurch Hospital having suffered a seizure. This was much later diagnosed as Autoimmune Encephalitis. This resulted in some brain damage and also partial paralysis of the left side. This made any hand work impossible as the left hand was useless hence tremendous frustration because all the things she used to do now could not be done.

This frustration caused her to be a little difficult to handle and she was sent home for me to look after from two other rest homes which couldn’t manage her, but the staff at Tasman Rest Home managed to achieve this where others had failed. They were patient, caring and loving allowing her to mix with others and looking after all her needs in a very bright and efficient manner.

All I can say is well done to the management and staff. You also looked after me at a time when I needed help and you comforted me as well.

My grateful thanks on behalf of Lynley and me.

Graeme Daniel

My Thanks

I wish to convey my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff and management of Tasman Rest Home for the exceptional care extended to my wife Joan during the two and a half years she was resident in your facility.
The patience, compassion and kindness of the staff and management to the residents is also offered to the family and friends visiting their loved ones. Though Joan was unable to express her feelings, especially toward the end of her stay, I know she felt loved and was extremely fond of your staff and appreciative of the care and help she received at all times.
We are very fortunate in Nelson to have a dedicated dementia facility with such high standards as Tasman Rest Home. I can confidently recommend Tasman to anyone needing dementia care for their loved ones as a home away from home where they will receive the best care possible.

Sincerely

Alan Crawford

Outstanding Care Provided for my Mum

The Positives : The wonderful staff at Tasman provided outstanding care for my mum throughout her stay. They were, without exception, calm, kind and warm-hearted toward her at all times. That she was able to smile and laugh with us right up to her last days is a tribute to the ‘best friends’ and ‘small homes’ concept being implemented by DementiaCare NZ. We will always remain grateful that we chose Tasman to care for her.

The Negatives : Nothing.

To anyone viewing this facility we encourage you to focus on the calm atmosphere and attitude of the caring staff. So while the rooms and lounges are bright and cheery they don’t have the latest decor. Funds are obviously spent on providing the very best in personal care for the residents as we found. We never regretted for even one minute our decision to settle Mum here.
S.Smith.

Hi Claire ,

‘We have found Tasman Rest Home and dementia Care to be the best place for our Mum. The Carers and Nurses take great care to make sure that Mum gets what she needs. It’s never easy losing your Mum to dementia, but we are happy in the knowledge that she is being well cared for an Tasman. Any time we have concerns, we voice them and they listen, take it on board and try their hardest to make sure Mum is happy and comfortable. They take time to get to know Mum and what her signs and signals mean and do their best to understand what she wants. No ‘home’ is ever going to be perfect at this time of life, but all the Carers, Nurses and other staff at Tasman really do their very best to make Mum feel at home. They truly do care about Mum.’ Kath Bee

Thanks
Kath

To all the wonderful staff at Tasman,
We just wanted you to know how much our family appreciated the outstanding care you gave my Mum throughout her stay with you.
You were, without exception, calm, kind and warm hearted toward her at all times.
That she was able to smile and laugh with us right up to her last days is a tribute to all of you and the ‘Best Friends’ and ‘small homes’ concept being implemented by Dementia Care NZ.
We will always remain grateful that we chose Tasman to care for Mum after she could no longer stay at home.
We extend to you all of our warmest regards and grateful thanks.
Sue and John, Michael and Carolyn and the rest of the family of Joy Guy.
ACTS 24:15 – We look forward to seeing our darling Joy again.

To all the staff at Tasman Rest Home.

We would like to say a big thank you for the lovely happy friendly care given to our Father Allen Mills.
It was so nice walking into the building, residents and staff alike always greeted us with smiles and hello’s.
The sensor mat by his bed was always being set off by us accidently no matter how hard we tried not to and a staff member would come in with a beaming smile and switch it off.
Nothing seemed to be a bother.
We always felt like we belonged to a big family, this made things so much easier for us to cope with Dad having to be in an environment he didn’t want to be and his health deteriorating.
The banter between you and Dad was a joy to see, Dad loved to give cheek to someone and it was nice to see you responding back.
The care and friendliness not only extended to Dad, as an extended family always being there, we also were looked after.
The endless cups of tea and coffee, and a meal if we happened to be there at that time was so generous. Along with the one happy hour we happened to coincide with, was nice it was shared with everybody not just the residents. I know my grandchildren loved it, Toby still talks about his lemonade and chippies with Great Granddad.
We will be recommending you to everyone we talk to, our choice of care for Dad was just the best in our eyes, thank you so much.

Kindest Regards
Christine Griffith and Gene.

15th March 2012.

My Husband, Eric, has been a resident of Tasman Rest Home and Dementia Care in Stoke, Nelson since January 17th this year and I can’t speak too highly about the wonderful care he is receiving.

All the staff, from the Managers, The Registered Nurses, the Diversional Therapists and the Carers are all very competent and all so cheerful and most welcoming.

A support group meeting is held once a month for the families of the residents, which I find most helpful.

I am very happy to have Eric being cared for by these wonderful people and would thoroughly recommend Tasman Rest Home and Dementia Care.
