Home away home

I am shocked and sadden by the previous extremely negative review and can assure you this is in no way anywhere near truthful.
I can only guess whose opinion this is as the writer is anonymous so it would be wrong for me to elaborate on my thoughts on this person’s reasons for the review.

This is our personal experience:
Our mother has been a resident of Dominion home for over 4 years and there’s not a day gone by that we have regretted choosing DH for her.
The size of the home is not overwhelming which makes it a very comfortable place to feel at home in for her. There is no constant urine smell. Of course there are accidents sometimes, as there are in any of these homes, but residents are quickly changed as soon as its detected by the awesome staff.
I share the daily visits to DH with my brother and neither of us has any complaints about the care of our mother. The food is made fresh daily with food types in keeping with the residents tastes and needs in mind. Believe me if the food was not to their standard there would be hell to pay with the opinionated, honest as a child, residents which proves the Dominion Home kitchen knows what it’s doing. As I am there around lunch time I can tell you I see it is made fresh. My brother, who is there close to dinner time, tells me he see’s evening meals are also made fresh.
The management are always striving to improve where needed and open to ideas and critique should there be any. Several times we have been given questionnaires to fill in so they can judge if they are still on track doing things the way families would like.
The residents have many activities in and out of the home. I often post pictures on FB and receive so many comments how amazing the amount of effort DH goes to for their residents and that such things do not happen in the homes their loved ones are in.
I would suggest to please go and see for yourselves that this is a nice small dementia home for our loved ones

Provider response:

Thank you for your kind words.

I do not recommend Dominion Home, the common area always had a strong smell of urine. Every time I had visited my loved one the smell was always present. The kitchen area had cob webs and fly waste on the ceiling, the floor was always grubby. The food wasn't fresh it was prepared in the morning and microwaved prior to feeding the residents. My loved ones room always had lingering smell of urine also, always advised staff of this lack of house keeping. Majority of staff were friendly, Management on the other hand that's other story.

Moderator response:

Dominion Home thanks you for your review of the 26.10.2019. We take your concerns seriously. The matters mentioned in the review have been addressed. Dominion Home has an 'open door' policy and we invite you to visit our Facility any time at your convenience.

Restrictions - critical visitors only

Dominion Home is a boutique family oriented dementia facility; whether you need long term, respite short term stays or day-care for your family member, we cater to the various needs of the individual.
All the care staff at Dominion Home are long term with a passion for people and skills within the Dementia field.
There’s laughter and lots of cheering when our activities therapist is working with our residents. Her warm personality and fun approach to the games and activities makes her very popular among both residents and family.
Our grounds are securely gated, and the grounds include a lovely garden walk around the perimeter of the property.
We strive to maintain as much family atmosphere, and socialisation for our residents. Pets come to visit regularly; organised group outings and shopping trips are all a part of helping to provide a sense of belonging. Personal touches like photos and memorabilia are encouraged in the residents’ rooms.
While we are not the place with all the bells and whistles, grand furnishings or multiple levels; we do provide a safe, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. You can be confident your loved one will be cared for as though they were our own family members.
Visitors are welcome to arrange a tour and consultation with our qualified team, who can answer your questions regarding your individual care needs.

I would like to express my gratitude for the care of my mum and to the kind carers who do such a wonderful job looking after mum.

I have also been really impressed with your activities coordinator. Nearly every time I come to see mum she is engaged in some wonderful activity. She appears happy and is smiling and laughing. She is talking and joking like I used to remember her. I am so grateful and it is so good to see mum engaged as opposed to just sitting alone in her room.

I have seen some really positive changes under the new management with the place looking tidier and the walls decorated with some lovely images.

It has also been good to see the manager and the registered nurse constantly around and obviously being very visible and involved in the residents and improving the Home.

Well done and thanks again. - Sandra

My mother Elizabeth has lived here for a few years now. We have always felt very comfortable with the caring homely attitude Dominion Home has for its residents. We are always kept well informed should health problems arise.
And whenever there is a reason to celebrate something Dominion Home will grab the chance of a party and family members are welcome too.
A huge thanks to all the staff!
