Testimonials
To all the staff at Eltham Care Rest Home, Thank you so much for the great care you are giving to my mother Dianne. Also a Big Thank You for all your hard work making the midwinter lunch a good time. My sister, mum and I really enjoyed it. Compliments to the chefs on a wonderful meal. Kind regards, Jenny July 2021 _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ My name is Steven Shearer. My father is Neil Shearer, a resident at Mercy Jenkins Rest Home in Eltham, Taranaki. I'm writing this e-mail in support of the manager at Mercy Jenkins - Hillary Rimmer. My mother, Glenyss Shearer, has had a long association with first Eventide and now Mercy Jenkins Rest Home, and as a child and adult I have visited Mercy Jenkins for over 30 years. I recently spent two-and-a-half months in Eltham staying with my Mother. I went up to Mercy Jenkins every day to visit my Father, and got the opportunity to get to know Hillary. She brings a lot of positive energy with her into the rest home and has an excellent rapport with all of the residents there. In all the years I have been visiting Mercy Jenkins I have never seen a more enthusiastic and professional manager. I hope DHB appreciate the excellent job that Hillary is doing and that she continues in this role for many years to come. Steven Neil Shearer (Family of Resident in Mercy Jenkins) The care for my Uncle has been fantastic. Staff are really caring, they cater for special diets and special needs. Everybody is real friendly towards residents, staff, visitors and even the caretaker. We as a family can only recommend Mercy Jenkins as it is the place we tell people about. The home on the hill, great views, awesome care. We are kept inform of Uncle progress and are able to ask questions at anytime. Nothings is ever a problem for Hillary and her team. Mj Allendor ( Family of resident at Mercy Jenkins ) The Manager and her staff have taken time and care to manage and reduce Chris's agitation over recent months. There is a huge change and as a family we thank Hillary who has worked with her team to achieve this. Sylvia Collins (Family of resident at Mercy Jenkins) ================================================================================================================== Eltham care resthome was home to my mum who had younger onset Alzheimers. From the beginning mum was treated as part of a family, she retained many of her favourite pastimes and maintained many of her all important freedoms. Mum loved her time there. The activities coordinator is one of the most vibrant and enthusiastic people I know, the chef presents delicious meals delivered with a joke or personal comment to every resident, everyone is friendly and attentive. The manager and the admin team are extremely professional and Carly helped in every possible way. The care shown to mum in her final days was extraordinary. Our family (all 12 of us!) including several young, energetic children were welcomed, fed and made to feel at home 24 hours a day. The compassion shown to mum and us by the nurse and carers was amazing. The grounds are beautiful with plenty of space in both the main part and the secure dementia wing. I had investigated several other homes before placing mum and this one far exceeded all of mine and her expectations. Joe Carson Inglewood ================================================================================================================== I am writing a testimonial as to the facilities and care that they provide at Eltham Care Rest Home, 54 Maata Road, Eltham, Taranaki. During our families personal experiences, from the very start of my sister's admission to Eltham Care, Management, and staff have displayed a genuine and high standard of quality and professionalism, meeting all our needs and expectations. Some of these qualities, I would like to acknowledge, have involved ensuring my sister was made to feel comfortable, safe and respected, at all times. Carly and staff showed a dedication to make my sister's family part of their family atmosphere and this developed into building positive relationships of trust and understanding, as my sister's needs and care requirements changed over her time at Eltham Care. The day to day care, which is my sister experienced was outstanding, and a high level of inclusions in special celebrations and events were always a family occasion, such as Christmas parties. The level of service, such as dietary, personal and general health care, entertainment and spiritual needs enabled my sister to continue to enjoy participation in the things that mattered to her, such as singing along to her favourite songs and enjoying a range of appetising food. When my sister was able, she enjoyed outings, along with other residents, which ranged from shopping trips or participating in the community events, such as the American festival. The level of care was consistent and reliable. Communication was open and honest. and there was always sincerity in meeting positive outcomes for my sister and our family. Even at the time of my sister's passing, we always felt included and Carly and her staff showed how compassion is from the heart and why their place is called Eltham 'Care', it's because they really do. The most important thing my family want to share in this testimonial, is that Eltham Care enabled my sister to live with dignity and peace of mind, so we could all continue to build lasting memories with her. From my family to your family, we highly recommend Eltham Care Rest Home. Pamel Gaunt Stratford ================================================================================================================== To whom this may concern, We want to express our gratitude to the whole team of Eltham Care who cared for our mum for five years until her recent death in January. During all this time mum suffered from Dementia. Carly and the nurses and carers at the home (including chef and his team) took exceptional care of mum until the end. We wholeheartedly recommend entrusting your loved ones with them. Yours faithfully, Leo & Charmaine Brennan Hawera ================================================================================================================== Our father Herbert was in full-time care at Eltham from July 2019 until he passed on the 16th January this year. Previous to him being in full-time care dad used to visit 2 days a week to give me some respite time and dad interaction with other people his age. To make it easier for me Carly and her team used to come and pick dad up and then bring him home in the afternoon. We can not fault Carley and her wonderful staff for everything that they did for our dad and for our dad to trust everyone there is indeed a huge compliment to them. For us the family, we were always kept in touch with and informed about our dad's care and health and everyone there made us feel very welcome and almost like we were apart of their family, this had a huge and positive effect on us. We have and will continue to always recommend Eltham Care Rest Home for anyone's loved ones. Sincerely and with kind regards, Audrey Sayer and all the Marshall family |

4 YEARS CERTIFICATION FROM THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH. View of Mt. Taranaki in both Rest Home and Dementia Areas. Quiet and relaxing overall environment suitable for resident's relaxation and well-being. Freshly prepared meals by a full time chef. Excellent care from highly experienced care staff and nurses. Welcome to our Culture of Care. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Eltham Care Rest Home prides itself with providing residents the opportunity to retain their freedom and wander safely, and uses minimal medication and no physical restraint. The extended family are encouraged to participate in the ongoing clinical, social and cultural support of the residents. We are providing the following for your information: MAKING A CHOICE AND A DECISION Choosing a Specialized Facility that will meet all your relative’s needs can be a difficult task. The time of decision to put your family member into care can be heartbreaking especially for a husband or wife who have been together for many years. There is a grieving process, which can be slow, progressive or rapid. The transition from home to full time care is very upsetting to the family, but often less so for a person who has advanced dementia. We find that these people get along surprisingly well together, they talk to each other and organised some of their own activities, even though the activities may be continually repeated. Each person admitted to care may have a behaviour that is socially unacceptable, and it is impossible to teach new tasks or ways to behave appropriately. With this in mind, each person should be accepted as they are, at their own level, maintaining as much independence as is within their capabilities. You will probably have many questions to ask about the quality of life and care the folks receive while in care, about the standard of accommodation, service and food, the number of staff on duty, how medical services are assessed and lots more questions. Collecting a comprehensive Social History, of values and interests for each Resident, enables a greater individualisation of approaches and possible intervention that might bring pleasure and minimise stress. Coming to terms with the devastation of a Dementia diagnosis is not easy for friends, relatives and whanau. Our expert team is well qualified to support you. FEEL FREE TO VISIT US ANY TIME OR MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO COME AND VISIT US: As this is our residents “home” it is courteous to make a time that is convenient to our residents for you to visit. Contact the facility and arrange to discuss your needs with the Manager. Have a list of questions if you wish. Our management team are very skilled in caring for persons with dementia and can provide support at this time You may feel more comfortable bringing someone with you when you visit. A MESSAGE ON BEHALF OF PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA: * We forget instructions and do not understand what you expect us to do * We may say “yes” and then do not act as you have asked * We may be in pain but we cannot tell the people at the right time and we do not remember to ask for pain relief * Most of the time we do not know where we are * We do not understand what the bell is for. We cannot remember where the bell is anyway – however many times you explain * When in the toilet, we sometimes cannot remember why we are there * We cannot remember instructions, so please do not leave us alone in strange places * We feel the need to go to the toilet but cannot remember to ask for help at the right time * In our confusion, we may try to find a familiar place and get into trouble * We cannot cope with more than one piece of information or one instruction at a time * Making choices from several alternatives, such as a menu, is beyond our ability * Please find a simple way to get information * We may need reminding over and over again about things which others remember after one instruction. For example, we may need to be told every time where there is a meal to be eaten * We are not acting in a confused way to be deliberately annoying. We have lost the ability to remember things and we often feel lost in places which are strange to us FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT OUR POLICY AND SERVICES PLEASE REQUEST OUR NEW RESIDENTS INFORMATION PACKAGE. |
