About Ascot Park Care

2007 — The Beginning
Greg & Susan Pritchard took ownership of Bryant House Retirement Home in November 2007 when they moved back to Hawke's Bay from Australia to be closer to family. Greg's parents had owned and managed aged care facilities since the mid 90s, which is where Greg first became exposed to the industry. With the Global Financial Crisis impacting the region hard, Greg believed they needed to stick to something the family knew and understood—which led to the acquisition of Bryant House Retirement Home.

2007–2010 — Early Days
When the Pritchards acquired Bryant House, it was a 33-bed rest home. Residents were more independent, some of whom even required a car park as they were still driving. Greg recalls the last resident to drive themselves to Ascot Park was in 2010—things have certainly changed since then.

2015 — Expanding to Memory Care
With resident acuity levels on the increase and early-stage dementia becoming a common reason for people moving into care, it seemed logical to transition part of Bryant House into a Dementia facility, providing a safer, more secure environment for residents as their dementia progressed.

A Turning Point
"By expanding our service delivery to incorporate Dementia, residents who had called Bryant House home for years could continue to do so as their needs changed." This was the most significant improvement made to date—residents, family members and staff all benefited by reducing the anxiety of transferring to a new care facility.

June 2015 — Resource Consent Approval Granted
After two long years of graft, resource consent was granted for a new 48-bed care facility, 15 free standing Villas, 13 serviced apartments and a community centre including an outdoor bowling green.

2023 — Hospital Wing Opens
To effectively keep pace with the evolving needs of residents, Greg and the Clinical team realised the need to further expand service delivery to include a "high care" model—hospital level care. In 2023 the first stage of a new purpose-built care facility was completed with the opening of our Hospital Wing.

Today — True Continuity of Care
With the final stage of construction of the care facility and community centre now complete, we are able to provide a true continuity of care—from independent villas, serviced apartments, rest home, dementia and hospital levels of care under one roof. Ascot Park continues its mission of making a difference, every day.
