Service Description
| Hello and welcome! I'm Jen, the founder of THE GENTLE ART COMPANY This venture was born out of my own experience with my mum after she went into care. She’s now in a wonderful home and very well looked after. However, I often noticed how busy the staff could be at times. How some residents, especially those without family nearby, could go long stretches without visitors. When someone’s world becomes four walls, it’s easy to withdraw and lose that vital sense of connection. This was a real concern to me, I felt great compassion for those residents and their families. So I set about creating a solution, to keep our older whānau engaged in life. The Gentle Art Company was born. WHAT I OFFER: I provide a mobile Art & Companionship service across the North Shore and greater Auckland. Each visit lasts an hour, where I spend quality 1 on 1 time with you. I always bring along a creative activity, thoughtfully tailored to your interests. There’s absolutely no pressure to complete the artwork. Creativity is simply our vehicle for connection. Many activities have a gentle, vintage feel, encouraging and prompting conversation and the sharing of memories. Have a look through the images, to get a sense of the kind of art we may explore (this is just a snap shot). I want to approach older people with art that is interesting, perhaps outside of what they may already know. If an creative activity interests you, but you think it may be too difficult for you. I will help you to achieve the outcome you want. Guiding, adjusting and making the activity accessible to you. * I am very sustainably minded, I bring these principals to The Gentle Art Company. Even the scrap paper from our sessions is turned into papier-mâché, for future sessions. All materials are sourced from local charity, The Northshore Resource Centre; who specialise in art and craft supplies. I’ve also created conversation cards with light, thoughtful questions to help spark dialogue (however, as talking is one of my superpowers, we often don’t need them)! I bring along all the materials, so there’s nothing for you to prepare, except to expect my arrival. IN A NUTSHELL: Session cost: $50 (payable on or before booking) Location: In-home or residential care visits Duration: 1 hour of companionship and creative engagement What’s included: A curated creative activity designed around your interests and hobbies You can book me as often as you like! There's no minimum or maximum. I offer a subscription of 10 sessions for $450 - discounting each session to $45, saving $5 per session. There’s no obligation to take part in the art; if you'd rather chat, reminisce, or simply enjoy each others company, that’s perfectly fine! Companionship comes in many forms: painting nails, gentle hand massages, looking through old photos, playing a game, reading together, or simply sharing stories. I’m there to meet your needs, in that moment. The first session is free and a meet and greet and an opportunity to address any questions you may have. It's a chance for me to learn what sparks you and what your ability is. This allows me to design your sessions to your capabilities and interests. I’m dedicated to making each session as enriching, joyful and supportive as possible. * I do not offer personal care or outings. MY APPROACH: I always match your energy, pace, mood, and ability. Nothing will ever be too difficult or demanding. My goal is for our hour together to be the brightest hour of your week! I’m motivated by joy, compassion, the simple power of human connection and the stories we share. Meeting the needs of older people
| THE GENTLE ART COMPANY, exists for you, it was created because of my own experience with my mum. I saw there was great need to bring the world to her, now she was in care. To enjoy my sessions, you don't need to be in care. WHO COULD POTENTIALLY BE A MEMBER OF THE GENTLE ART COMPANY FAMILY? Anyone who is missing connection, companionship, creative stimulation, experiencing infrequent visitors; family or friends. Life is busy, family and friends move away, suddenly our world can feel very quiet and very small. The good news is, that's where I step in! I offer a mobile service on the Northshore, Auckland (and farther afield), where I come to you, armed with a creative activity, something we've established that interests you. I even bring all the materials and remove any rubbish we make! Our hour long session is designed to bring you friendship, fun, laughter, creativity and joy. I want to enable you to have the best hour of your week! Help is here! When you have me for our hour long, 1 on 1 session, I will match your PACE, your ABILITY, your ENERGY and your MOOD. You don't need to arrange or prepare anything. There is also zero pressure to do or complete our creative task. We could spend the hour playing games, listening to music together, chatting or I could paint your fingernails and give you a hand massage! Whatever it is that YOU feel YOU need. I'm all yours! Art is an amazing vehicle to wellness, but there's no expectation that you will participate. It's there, should you want it. You can hire me for a one off, or regular scheduled visits, easy peasy - pay as you go! You just need to relax and know that when I arrive, we're going to have the best time!
