Testimonials
from the very beginning.... "My Mother has been at Munro Unit since October 2011. Before she started she had lost all her social skills and was angry most of the time - she lived alone and had lost all of her friends. With a few speed bumps during the initial start period, by the end of the second week Mum was a changed person and has not looked back since. She thinks she is going off to work and does the gardens and dishes. With Mum's loss of memory, she was forgetting to take care of herself and on discussing this with the Munro Co-Ordinator, it was decided to shower Mum at Munro Unit. Mum is now showered three times a week. I for one cannot praise the Munro Unit staff enough for this transformation. Activities, outings and the laughter have given Mum back some quality of life on this journey she is on and although she will never 'come back to us' as we knew her. she now has some form of quality of life which I cannot thank the Unit enough for." "The Munro Unit's opening June 2011 was perfect timing for our family - and is now a fantastic resource I am sure the Community could not do without. From our perspective, it is certainly a resource that we have come to reply upon and appreciate very much. Mum suffers from Alzheimers and when it was no longer suitable or safe for Mum to be at home on her own during the day, the Munro Unit provided a comfortable, safe, caring and fun environment. We have peace of mind for her wellbeing. With our family living all over New Zealand, we were unable to provide the 'drop in' care a family could provide if they lived close by. Al the Munro Unit, we know Mum is happy and well cared for. We would be lost without it. The pick up and drop off service is fantastic. We receive weekly updates of what Mum has been up to: how she is going, activities she has been doing and her general wellbeing. It is great to read through these and get a picture of everything that happens. The Munro Unit Co-Ordinator has been extremely helpful to the family and any queries and concerns we may have and also her knowledge and experience with dementia/alzheimers has been invaluable for us." and years on...... "I would just like to commend you on the wonderful attention you and your staff give to Mum. She just loves to attend and considers the other Residents as a "lively bunch". They are her family away from family. She is very lucky to be picked up and dropped off at the door by the friendly bus driver who always ensures her safety by helping her up into the bus and making sure everyone is strapped in. Once she arrives and is greeted by you she is kept busy. Mum enjoys a lovely lunch and morning and afternoon tea. She particularly enjoys visiting the horses nearby as she was a good horsewoman in her day. Painting is also a favourite and she loves the walks. For me, I am so lucky to have this service. I run a fairly busy business from home and did not quite know what to do with Mum. She is safe, happy and well cared for at the Munro Unit and is very comfortable in this environment." "My loved one has been attending the Day Stay programme at Beattie Home in Otorohanga. Since attending, his willingness to interact with other people there has brought his shyness out and is not very agitated around others unknown to him. (Thank you Beattie Home). The staff are so helpful, cheerful and very informative on the day to day activities within the resthome as well as outside visits to local outlets, venues, places. I rate Beattie home a 10/10 with a big thumbs up". |
