Description
Ryman Healthcare have been providing retirement living and care options within one village community for over 30 years. Putting residents first has always been our priority, and our terms, care and innovation are a direct reflection of this. Because at Ryman, it's all about people.

Winner: 2019 Trusted Brand Aged Care & Retirement Villages.

The Jean Sandel Retirement Village is named after a proud New Plymouth citizen and one of New Zealand's most acclaimed surgeons. The village provides independent living, assisted living in serviced apartments, and the very best of resthome, hospital and dementia care.

Located in Whalers Gate close to the Base Hospital and Countdown, the village is situated on an elevated and sunny site which encompasses views of the sea and Mt Taranaki. Features include architecturally designed independent townhouses and apartments, serviced apartments, and a care centre, that are all set amongst beautifully landscaped gardens.

Serviced apartments are in the heart of the village, with easy access to everything the village has to offer. As well as regular outings in the village van to the shops and further afield.

Many residents say that living in a serviced apartment takes the stress out of daily life.

You can choose a home-cooked main meal every day from our Delicious menu, as well as morning and afternoon tea, in the dining room. Other services are available too. You might like to have your breakfast delivered to your apartment - it's your choice.

You can make your apartment your own with your favourite furniture, art, and ornaments. You'll have a kitchenette with a fridge-freezer and microwave, a separate bedroom, and a private ensuite.

The Ministry of Health conducts regular audits of Residential Care Facilities. They can be found HERE.

NOTE: The Retirement Villages Act 2003 (The Act) is designed to provide improved protection for people who ‘buy’ into a retirement village. If you intend to ‘purchase’ you must get independent legal advice before signing your occupation right agreement as required under The Act. Some Retirement Village type facilities are not required to register under The Act so different legal requirements apply. Please make sure you investigate fully.

In some villages there may be some Retirement Village units that have multiple uses e.g. a Serviced Apartment may also be used as a Residential Care Suite. The same unit may therefore show in several places on Eldernet. The DHB Shared Services website provides additional information about this service.
