Brand New Care Suites Opening July 2019 – Enquire Now

Our Care Offering
Making the most of its spot in the sun, the new facilities at Awatere are flooded with natural light, making it feel warm, fresh and inviting. There are plenty of comfortable nooks to enjoy – soak in the sun in the stunning courtyard, find a friend for a chat in the lounge or curl up with a book in the library. Awatere offers a premium option for aged care. This is Rest Home reinvented – private and spacious Care Suites for luxurious living, as well as additional personalised services to ensure that from food to activities, your day is filled with the things you love.

Living in a Care Suite is like living in an apartment where you can enjoy the flexibility and control you're used to, along with that bit of luxury you deserve. Care Suites are for both Rest Home and Hospital level care, so any extra support you need comes to you. This means your suite is your forever home - you don’t have to go through the upheaval of moving again, and staff who know you and your family best stay caring for you. A DHB assessment is not required for care that is paid for privately.

There is a choice of suites either with an open-plan bedroom and lounge, or separate bedroom and living spaces. All Care Suites have a heat pump and full ensuite, as well kitchenette with fridge and microwave - perfect for making a cuppa when friends and family visit. We also have options with private balconies or patios. You own the right to occupy your Care Suite, so can personalise it with your favourite furniture and treasured pieces.

Activities Programme
It’s easy to fill your diary at Awatere. Your guest services coordinator will spend time with you to find out what you feel like doing. Whether you want to meet up with friends at a show, or video chat with family overseas, they take care of the logistics to make it happen. Our activities calendar is packed with a variety of group and solo pursuits. Hop in the village van for a mystery trip, join your neighbours for theme days and happy hour, or enjoy some me-time listening to your own personalised music playlist with our award-winning I Love Music programme.

Food
Tender Sunday roasts, hot fish and chips and scrummy homemade puddings… all are regular features on our menu, which is packed with tasty classics you’d make at home. Don’t fancy what’s on offer? Have a chat to our friendly chef and kitchen team to let them know what you’re craving. Good food is best shared, and family and friends are welcome to come dine with you. Enjoy a barista coffee and a bite to eat from the onsite café or book in for a meal in the main or private dining room.

What's Nearby
We don’t have visiting hours at Awatere because it’s your home and we know how important it is for you to stay connected to your community. With local shops and cafes just few minutes’ walk down the road, and State Highway 1 just a 5-minute drive away, it’s easy for friends and family to get you out and about too.

Award Winning Care
Great care is what we do and we’ve got the accolades to prove it. Oceania’s won the Supreme Award from the NZ Aged Care Association three years in a row, so you can be sure you’re in good hands. When it comes to your care, you know what you like and don’t like - and we want to know your preferences too. Because everyone is different, each of our residents get a personalised care plan, so from meals to medications, everything that’s important to you is covered. Awatere also has a dedicated physio and rehabilitation room.

MOH Certification and Audit Report View MOH certification and audit report (opens in a new tab)
Updated: 20 Aug 2019

The Ministry of Health conducts regular audits of Residential Care Facilities. They can be found HERE.

NOTE: The Retirement Villages Act 2003 (The Act) is designed to provide improved protection for people who ‘buy’ into a retirement village. If you intend to ‘purchase’ you must get independent legal advice before signing your occupation right agreement as required under The Act. Some Retirement Village type facilities are not required to register under The Act so different legal requirements apply. Please make sure you investigate fully.

In some villages there may be some Retirement Village units that have multiple uses e.g. a Serviced Apartment may also be used as a Residential Care Suite. The same unit may therefore show in several places on Eldernet. The DHB Shared Services website provides additional information about this service.
