Atawhai offers a range of options for aged care including care suites, which means no matter your needs or budget, you can choose what best suits your lifestyle.

Care Suites provide both Rest Home and Hospital level care, which means you can relax knowing you won’t have the upheaval of moving again if your needs increase.
You own the right to occupy your Care Suite, so you can personalise it with your favourite furniture and treasured pieces. A DHB assessment is not required for care that is paid for privately.

All Care Suites feature:
• Full ensuite bathroom
• Kitchenette
• Living area for entertaining guests
• Private balcony and/or patio
• Heat pump

Atawhai is conveniently located on Gloucester Street, making it easy for friends and family to pop by or get you out and about to local shops and cafes.

There are plenty of amenities close to Atawhai including golf courses, garden centres, cafes and a large community sports arena which hosts a variety of sporting and social functions. There’s also a heated swimming pool at the nearby school.

With a bus stop right outside, the beautiful art deco city of Napier is just a short trip away, as are Hastings, and Havelock North.

Interests & Activities
Interests & Activities
We run an activities programme designed to meet the needs of all our residents. It includes a diverse range of daily group and one to one activities as well as regular events and entertainment.

Monthly themed lunches, A La Carte restaurant evenings and happy hours always prove popular with residents and their families alike.

Regular activities including cooking and exercise classes, arts and craft, Men’s club, housie, crosswords, knitting, gardening, games, quizzes, indoor bowls and church services. In addition, we have visits from local schools and kindergarten children, artists and other community groups as well as bi weekly entertainment by local singers and musicians.

For those who like to venture out, we offer something for everyone, including fishing trips, gallery visits, shopping, outings to parks, cafés and the RSA or simply seat back and enjoy one of our weekly sightseeing tours around the beautiful Hawkes Bay.

Because everyone loves a bit of friendly competition, we take on some of the other homes in the area in bowling matches, quizzes and our version of Commonwealth Games.

Of course, families are a special part of our residents life’s and are always welcome and encouraged to join in. Whether it’s one of our special BBQ lunch outings by the beach, an outing to events or any one of our daily or weekly activities or events.

One on one walks, hand massage, pampering, reminiscing, music, chats, pet therapy are some of the one to one activities we also offer.

With the local village being only 3 blocks away; local amenities, the library, shops, banks and the post office are all close by.

The Ministry of Health conducts regular audits of Residential Care Facilities. They can be found HERE.

NOTE: The Retirement Villages Act 2003 (The Act) is designed to provide improved protection for people who ‘buy’ into a retirement village. If you intend to ‘purchase’ you must get independent legal advice before signing your occupation right agreement as required under The Act. Some Retirement Village type facilities are not required to register under The Act so different legal requirements apply. Please make sure you investigate fully.

In some villages there may be some Retirement Village units that have multiple uses e.g. a Serviced Apartment may also be used as a Residential Care Suite. The same unit may therefore show in several places on Eldernet.
