Meeting the needs of older people
Meeting the needs of older people
Te Ahi Kaa offers several services that specifically assist older adults (kaumātua):
• Te Pae Tawhiti Te Pae Tata (Elder Abuse Response Services): This service addresses elder abuse and neglect by ensuring that older individuals have timely access to appropriate local services. It aims to safeguard their immediate safety and support them in gaining greater control over their lives.
• ACC Rongoā Māori: As a registered ACC provider, Te Ahi Kaa offers traditional Māori healing practices, including mirimiri (massage), karakia (prayer), and whitiwhiti kōrero (therapeutic conversation). This holistic approach supports the physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing of older adults.
• ACC Living My Life: This disability support service assists individuals with long-term injuries in making decisions about their living arrangements, activities, and goals. It empowers older adults to achieve personal, community, and employment aspirations.
