Set in a quiet street in Birkenhead, with charming gardens and lovely neighbours, Selwyn House offers subsidised rental accommodation for people over the age of 70. A community home with 11 independent living suites, Selwyn House is perfect for those on limited means who currently live alone, but would enjoy the company and security of living around others.

If this sounds like you, check out the full eligibility criteria on our website at selwynfoundation.org.nz or contact us on 09 846 0119 or rentals.sv@selwynfoundation.org.nz to make an appointment to view our suites.

Selwyn House is located within Hansen Close, a small retirement village in Roseberry Avenue, Birkenhead, on Auckland's North Shore. The village is close to Birkenhead town centre and has easy access to all the town's amenities and shops, yet enjoys the tranquil surroundings of a mature residential environment.

Selwyn House and Hansen Close are owned and operated by The Selwyn Foundation, an independent, faith-based New Zealand registered charity providing services to older people and their families. The Foundation has been leading the way in improving the quality of life of seniors since 1954. As pioneers of the retirement village model and of residential aged care in this country, we are uniquely experienced in providing care, independent retirement living and community outreach services for older adults.

Our Mission is: To deliver quality services that are responsive to the ageing person and their family, ensuring that our charitable outreach supports those who are vulnerable or in need. As a result of the ageing of New Zealand's population and the growing numbers of seniors who are vulnerable or in need, our work is more important than ever. With our charitable Mission as our foremost strategic objective, the Foundation is focused on providing charitable support and outreach where there is hardship amongst seniors who live in the wider community – whether that be loneliness and social isolation, material/financial/emotional- or housing-related.
