Registered Nurse Yes Suitably experienced and qualified Registered Nurses supervise care all care areas. There is a minimum of two rostered per shift. In addition there is a Clinical Manager and two Charge Nurses who are also Registered Nurses as is the Manager.
Healthcare Assistants/Caregivers Yes
Physiotherapist 4 +15 Yes Our Physiotherapist works one day a week and reassesses residents as necessary and sets up exercise plans for which are supervised by the Physiotherapy Assistant and Health Care Assistants. She also supervises hoist competencies for staff.
Diversional Therapist Yes The Programme is overseen by the Diversional Therapist who also runs the activities Programme in the rest Home.
Activities Co-ordinator 40 Yes Two Activities Co-ordinators conduct activities in the Hospital and a third runs the Programme in the Dementia Unit. All levels of abilities are catered for.
Hairdresser Yes The facility is serviced by two Hairdressers who offer usual services in a newly built area.
Podiatrist Yes Visits fortnightly and stays as long as needed. All our residents can be seen at least 6 wkly or as necessary.
Dietitian Yes We have access to a dietitian who is contracted by our company. She approves all our menus and gives advice as requested. We also can access the community Dietitian if necessay
Accredited Visitors Yes We have regular visits from Religious Groups. RSA will visit when we have members here as residents. Our Advocate visits monthly and talks with our residents and would alert the Manager if she thought there were any issues needing attention.
Kaumatua Yes We have a very good relationship with the Orongo mai Marae in Upper Hutt and we can and do access a Kaumatua.
Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor Yes Our Advocate is a chaplain. We also access Chaplains from specific denominations when requested.
Other Personnel Yes We have an Administrator and Receptionist, several Kitchen staff including a qualified Cook, numerous cleaning, maintenance and gardening personnel as well as a wide range of contractors for other services such as plumbing, Fire Safety, Pharmacy etc..

Gastronomy/Nasogastric Management Yes Our Registered Nurse's manage Gastic feeding. They recieve regular and updated education on this.
Oxygen Management Yes We manage Oxygen use commonly. We have three oxygen concentrators and have access to bottled Oxygen on our premises which are managed by Registered Nurses. We can access the Respiratory Nurse as needed.
Surgical Followup Yes We have a responsibility to ensure our residents get to their out patient appointments. If for whatever reason this is not possible (could be due to medical reasons)we will negotate with the service provider for an alternative.
Wound Care Yes Our Registered Nurses recieve constant education on wound management and the equipment used. We can access a wound care specialist if necessary.
Diabetic Care Yes Our Registered Nurses once again are educated in the treatment of Diabetes, the administration of Insulin and diet control. If necessary we can access the community Diabetic Nurse.
Continence Advisor Yes We have access to a continence advisor.
Infection Control Yes We have our own Infection Control Nurse who attends seminars and workshops to keep herself up to date with Infection control topics. We also have access the the Hutt DHB's Infection Control team as well as the Pathologists from the Labarotory
Stomal Therapist Yes We can access a stomal thereapist if necessary, although our Registered Nurses can manage this.
Specialist Palliative Care Yes We have access to the Te Omanga Hospice, their nursing and medical staff. We have worked very closely with them providing excellent end-of-life services for our residents.
Palliative Care Yes Our staff are trained in Palliative care, where we focus on ensuring our residents are pain free, their dignity and respect remains intact and they maintain as much independance as possible.

Specialised Dementia Care Yes A newly refurbished Unit can cater for up to 20 residents.
Gerontological Care Yes All our staff whether they are Registered Nurses or health care assistants are trained in all aspects of Gerontologocal Care.

Psychiatrist Yes We have excellent access to the psychogeriatrician at Hutt Hospital.

Special Features
Elderslea has a lovely atmosphere and people are always commenting on it when they enter our facility.

We have wide corridors and some larger than usual rooms.

We have very experienced staff and provide a broad range of education.

Details re Meals All menus are audited by a dietcian. Meals are prepared on site and served via bain Maries. Likes, dislikes and allergies are catered for and residents have been very complimentary about the food.
Staffing Details The facility Mnager is supported by the Clinical Manager and two Charge Nurses. Registered Nurses lead Health Care Assistants in the delivery of quality care. We then have health care assistants most qualified in support of the older adult. We have a quality co-ordinator, physio assistant, Diversional Therapist, three recreation co-ordinators, maintenance person, administrator and Receptionist. We have cooks and kitchen assistants, laundry workers and cleaners.
Associated Complexes Elderslea has just extende the range of services by way of a re-build that has allowed us to cater for 70 Hospital residents, 34 Rest ahome and 20 Dementia.
