Special Features
We pride ourselves in our ability to make residents' friends and family members feel welcome at any time. If visits coincide with meal times, we invite visitors to join us. Staff encourage friendships to develop between residents and also between residents and staff members.

Avonlea has a number of pets in residence including our cats. Residents' own pets are welcome at Avonlea, by negotiation.

Residents are taken to most hospital or specialist visits by the Care Manager.

Residents have phone access in their own rooms via a portable telephone. Some rooms have individual jack points.

Bimonthly meetings are held with the residents to discuss their likes and dislikes. Residents are encouraged to make suggestions regarding any changes they would like to see implemented.

It is very homely with dedicated and well educated staff. Some of them have been working at Avonlea Rest Home for more than 10 years.

We also provide Chinese sevices. Most of our staff can speak Chinese, including Cantonese. Our cook graduated from Auckland University with a cookery degree, who is good at cooking European and Chinese food. Our food combines "good old-fashioned cooking" with contemporary cuisine. Speical dietary requirement s and individual likes and dislikes are carered for. One comments from a relative was: " Avonlea is not only a rest home, but also a restaurant".

Chinese Television, books, magazines and newspapers are available.

How to apply? Just ring us or pop in. We can help you for an admission or an assessment for a subsidy status if you are not sure how to do it.
