I was recovering from my accident. To the great chefs in the kitchen, and to all the carers who looked after me. Thank you to everyone there at Kimihia, I got to meet a lot of known Huntly people, and to talk to a lot of interesting people. You have a beautiful Rest Home and Hospital. It was good to see my cousin, Sue, she is in good hands. Some of the staff [who] stood out for me - JJ, Latu, Joan, Seli, Hellen, Evangeline, Meluna, Emali, Mark, Nomatter. Thank you for your loyalty and dedication in caring for me. May God bless you all. I will come back and visit my friends. Arohanui to you all.

About Us
At Kimihia Resthome and Hospital, we pride ourselves on offering a personal, small-community environment where the contributions of older people are valued and celebrated. Our mission is to provide compassionate, high-quality care in a setting that feels like home.

Our Story
The North Waikato Care of the Aged Trust Board, Inc. was established in 1972 as a charitable community trust—a joint initiative by the Huntly Lions, Rotary, and Jaycees Clubs. Today, the Trust continues its legacy with representation from the Huntly Community Board.

Kimihia Resthome opened its doors in March 1979, officially inaugurated by the Hon. Sir Douglas Carter, then High Commissioner to London. In 1988, the first independent living cottage was built, followed by one new cottage each year for the next five years. Fourteen years after the Resthome’s opening, Kimihia Hospital was launched in March 1993 by Dame Thea Muldoon QSO, expanding our ability to care for residents with more complex needs.
