Radius Heatherlea is located in the beautiful city of New Plymouth. It is centrally located and only 2 minutes drive from the city centre.

Heatherlea offers the best in rest home and respite care. This is a 55 bed facility with 19 swing beds, (Hospital/Rest Home)15 Rest Home Beds and 21 secure Dementia Beds.

Heatherlea also has a dedicated secure Dementia unit with its own secure garden setting.

Family is very important to us, and we encourage friends and family to become involved in all aspects of our residents lives. We encourage residents to bring in their favourite possessions, so they can personalise their rooms, so they remain as much as possible their familiar surroundings.

Our residents have the freedom to come and go with friends and families as much as they like, or otherwise friends and families are always welcome. Radius Heatherlea offers a variety of activities, crafts, and recreational programme as well as regular outs.

To the Wonderful Staff at Heatherlea. On behalf of myself and all our family I would like to express how deeply grateful we are for the kindness and care you all gave to mum for the Seven years she spent with you. She felt very much at home there which was extremely important to us. Thank you so very much -she will leave a big hole in the lives of us all.

A very special thank you to the staff at Heatherlea Healthcare for the care and love you gave to our mum and step mum over the past few months.

Registered Nurse 208 Yes We have the Clinical Nurse Manager, who does day shifts. Monday to Friday. We also a Registered Nurse on all shifts 24/7
Healthcare Assistants/Caregivers 600 Yes All healthcare assistants are qualified in ACE core and ACE dementia. We have onsite education along with support to attend external training opportunities ensure staff have current up to date best practise.
Physiotherapist Yes We have access to a qualified Physiotherapist when required for our residents.
Own Social Worker Yes We have strong links with Taranaki District Health Board Social Work team and Mental Health teams, who we can ask for advise. Our local Needs Assessment, Service Coordination team provide unbiased assessment for aged residential care.
Diversional Therapist 35 Yes We have a Registered Certified Diversional Therapist who works Monday to Friday. We also cater for those residents who don't wish to participate in activities and provide one on one sessions.
Activities Co-ordinator 32.5 Yes Along with our diversional therapist, the activities coordinator provides, happy hour sessions weekly with entertainment, snacks and beverages, family welcome. We have regular pamper sessions, games, exercise, craft days and outings.
Hairdresser Yes We have an in house dedicated salon on site salon with 2 hairdressers available throughout the week. Beauty therapist on request.
Podiatrist Yes We have a contracted podiatry service with a local podiatrist who makes house visit every 6 weeks.
Dietitian Yes All our menus are reviewed by a qualified dietician, if residents require individual input by a dietician a referral is made through a GP.

Kaumatua Yes We have a Kaumatua from a local Iwi who visits residents and completes cultural in-services for Staff.
Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor Yes Community Chaplains visit every Monday for church services and any resident is welcome to attend. If needed we can provide transport to community services.

Palliative Care Contract Yes We are able to provide Palliative Care, as we are fully equipped, and have Registered Nurses on 24/7. We have the support of medical/hospice to meet the needs of the client and family.
End of Life/Palliative Care Yes As part of continuum of age care provision our nursing staff are experienced in providing end of life care. We have the clinical expertise, access to the equipment and medical/hospice support to meet the needs of the client and family.
Gastronomy/Nasogastric Management Yes Our staff have experience in care for gastric feed.We can access equipment and supplies to provide this care. Radius has policies and procedures to ensure staff practise and administer PEG feeding with in safe guidelines.
Oxygen Management Yes Radius Heatherlea has bottled oxygen for emergency use and when residents require oxygen during transportation. Staff are experience in the management of oxygen therapy.
Surgical Followup Yes We are able to provide post discharge surgical care to our residents, with specialist wound management oversight. We provide transport and support if residents requiring follow up visits with TDHB or specialists.
Wound Care Yes Radius Heatherlea is able to provide specialist wound care management and has access to wound care products through EBOS. Our CNL and Registered Nurses have regular wound care education sessions.
Diabetic Care Yes Staff are trained in the care of the diabetic patient, are skilled at diabetic monitoring and administration of diabetic medication. Radius provides policy and procedures directing the management of the diabetic resident which ensures best practise.
Continence Advisor Yes We provides comprehensive continence management that is support by the Bunzel product range and who's specialist provide regular study sessions for staff on continence management to provide the best outcome for our residents.
Infection Control Yes Heatherlea has a specialist trained infection control co-ordinator who manages the risk of infections within the facility by through monitoring and assessment. We have a comprehensive outbreak management plan should it be required.
Stomal Therapist Yes Our CNL is qualified in Stoma care. We also have access to medical support through the TDHB to enable best practice managements of stoma's.
Psychiatric Care Yes We work closely together with mental health service for the older person on providing the best possible care for our residents.
Stroke Rehabilitation Yes Radius Heatherlea, can provide stroke rehabilitative support. With the support of our on call physiotherapist. We have nursing experience available to provide rehabilitative care.
Tracheotomy Care Yes Radius Heatherlea, can provide nursing support and care to residents that have a tracheotomy.
Specialised Dementia Care Yes We provide a secure environment which keeps our residents safe and calm and provide them with a sense of independence to move freely within their home. We have a secure outside area with garden beds and seating for residents and families to enjoy.

Community Health Yes We work with the community health on a regular basis.
Clinical Manager Yes We have a Facility Manager with 20 years experience within aged care, both managing Rest Homes, and assessing people for support in the community and rest home placement for TDHB's. We also have a Clinical Nurse Leader who is available Monday to Friday.
Other Nursing Specialities Yes Clinical Management cover is provided on call throughout the weekend and public holidays is necessary. Our Clinical Nurse Leader, is qualified in Stoma Care, Infection Control.

Respite Yes When there is a long term bed vacancy this may be offered for short term care use. Please phone the facility manager to discuss your requirement. This may be funded through TDHB Residential Care.

Rooms (Single) Yes There are 19 en suite rooms that are categorised as "Swing Beds" this means they can be used as Hospital Level of care or Rest Home Level. We also have 15 Rest Home Rooms Large & smaller that are specify for Rest Home, these have handbasins in them

Rooms (Suit Couple) Yes Our en suite rooms are large enough to be shared by a couple if this is required. Also we have 2 rooms in the Fuschia Wing which could accommodate a couple if necessary.
Ensuite Yes Majority of rooms in rest home area have en suites, which consist of a toilet, shower and vanity. All rooms that don't have ensuite have their own vanity.
Female residents only No We enjoy the social aspects of having both male and female residents. With large private rooms and ensuites provided personal space which maintains dignity and respect while enjoying the company of all residents within communal areas of the facility.

May Bring Own Furniture Yes We love you to personalise your private room, bring your own dresser, favourite chair, art work and those much loved photos. Your room is your sanctuary. We also provide furnishing for all rooms, so you can mix and match if you so wish.
Alcohol Permitted Yes We have happy hour on a Friday afternoon, where we shout you a drink or two, with nibbles and music. We also provide a drink with Sunday dinner if so wished. Alcohol in rooms are welcome.
Pets In Residence Yes Heatherlea has a facility cat called gingernut, we also have 2 bird aviaries, one with love birds and the other with a mixture of different species, they do produce chicks from time to time much to the delight of the residents. We also have 2 fish tanks.
Negotiate To Bring Own Pet Yes If you are prepared to let your pet become the facilities pet then this is possibility. This would have to be discussed with the facility manager.
Phone Access In Own Room Yes You can arrange with your private provider (Telecom, Vodafone) to connect a private land line into your room (most rooms already have lines available)

Maori Kaupapa Yes We have a cultural advisor and liaison person to assist us in meeting the needs of Maori resident and their whanau
Residents Committee Yes We have Bi-Monthly Residents meeting, with a resident advocate present, residents are able to discuss ideas and concerns which is then passed onto the manager to review.

Newsletter Yes Heatherlea puts out a newsletter to all residents and families every 2 -3 months. Rdius Care publishes a publication called the "Orbiter" quarterly which is distributed in the community, with national Radius news and updates.
Policy for management of challenging behaviour Yes Comprehensive policies and procedures to support staff in managing challenging behaviour. At all times residents are cared for in a respectful and dignified manner with the safety of the resident and others being paramount.
Confused Residents Yes A Person may become acutely confused due to an infection or are confused due to dementia. At all times confusion is investigated and the underlying medical concerns addressed by trained staff.
Lounges/seating areas Yes Heatherlea has 4 lounges, with comfortable seating, lots of windows, and modern décor. All the lounges have large LCD large TV's. Two of the lounges open out onto patio's with outdoor sun sails for sun protection, where residents can sit outside.
Outings Yes Our residents love their outings. In our van we have a electric lift for wheelchair access. There is normally 2 outings per week. The residents love our coastal areas and views round Taranaki, plus the many other attractions Taranaki has to offer.
Rural Setting No Heatherlea is situated in Central New Plymouth.
Smokers Room No We have a smoking area outside for those residents who wish to smoke.

Semi-Secure Yes Our Secure Wing is situated in a fully enclosed garden area, which houses love birds, and a beautiful pergola. Bedrooms have doors that lead out in to the secure garden area, residents are free to enjoy the outdoors, as well as our beautiful lounges.
Sprinklers Yes We have a A1 grade sprinkler system, along with fire pods and smoke detectors in all areas. These are all checked monthly and services. We have a current Building Warrant of Fitness.
Audit report available Yes You are welcome to visit the MOH web site and view our current audit report. All areas that required corrective action, have been thoroughly worked through, to achieve full attainment of standards of care.

Special Features
At Heatherlea residents have convenience of being so central to town, this makes it easier for family and visitors also. Right in the heart of the facility there is a peaceful outside garden, especially for the pleasure of our residents in the secure unit. We have four lovely lounges throughout the facility, with modern décor and comfortable seating, with music or wide screen TV available for the pleasure of our residents and families.

Heatherlea has a full activities programme which includes the following, but to name a few of the activities, Bingo, Board games, Bowls, Cards, Canine friends, Cooking, Craft, Entertainers, Exercises, Flower arranging, Happy Hour, Holidays, Lotto, Newspaper reading, Quizzes, Shopping, Sing-a-longs, Stroke Group.

The residents and families alike love watching our birds in the two aviaries we have, and there is great excitement when they product chicks.

We welcome visitors, and the residents especially love baby's and little children, we have an a close relationship with the ABC group, and the Omata and Marfell Primary School, participating in return visits.

Details re Meals All our meals are cooked on sit. Our main meal is served at midday with a lighter meal served in the evenings. Morning, afternoon tea, and supper, consists of home cooking, and sandwiches for those that want them. We have a national 4 week rotational menu which is also seasonal, developed by a chef, and approved by a dietician, which is suitable for the elderly.
Staffing Details Our Kitchen staff are all trained by the Hospitality Service industry and have obtained certification. Our HCA staff all complete the ACE Basic, Dementia, and Advance training, for which we have a contract with Health Education Trust.
Associated Complexes Radius is a New Zealand owned and operated company that specialises in delivering the very best levels of Rest Home, Hospital and Dementia Care to our elderly population and our young disable who require special care.
