Registered Nurse 336 Yes We have Registered Nurses on the floor 7 days a week. Fiona, Neethu and Denise (our Clinical Leadership team) are available for discussions and there is always someone from Senior Management on-call 24 hrs/7 days per week. We are in the process of recruiting more Registered Nurses to join our team.
Nurse Practitioner Negotiable As part of our medical provision to residents, Tui Medical provides a Nurse Practitioner to complete thorough reviews of residents medical and clinical care requirements for 2 half days per week. Tui staff provide a fantastic service, and they are available to meet with family members to ensure that care is resident-focused. We also work very closely with Te Whatu Ora Waikato Nurse Practitioners for the provision of clinical expertise, guidance and support for clinical decision-making.
Healthcare Assistants/Caregivers 1344 Yes Our staff work hard to provide amazing care to our residents. All Healthcare Assistants complete a comprehensive induction programme when and have completed or are working towards a National Certificate in Caregiving.
Physiotherapist 8 Yes We contract the services of the team from North Waikato Physiotherapy to provide services to residents. We are assigned a physiotherapist and she visits routinely twice a week. If required, she will visit site more often to ensure assessments and the creation of rehabilitation plans is completed. The Physiotherapist also provides teaching sessions for clinical staff.
Occupational Therapist Negotiable We contract services when needed.
Social Worker (on site) No We have access to the services of a Community Social Worker through the Waikato District Health Board when the need arises.
Diversional Therapist 80 Yes Our Diversional Therapy team consists of Tania, Maya & Dorothy. They provide a brilliant service and keep our residents entertained and busy with activities and outings. A large component of the activities they provide is to ensure our residents remain active and present within our community.
Hairdresser 4 Yes Carole visits weekly and provides hairdressing services in our dedicated beauty salon. Residents are able to book in weekly for a set or colour, or as often as necessary to ensure they look gorgeous all the time.
Podiatrist Negotiable We contract services from Counties Podiatry. Nathan visits six weekly and can provide a number treatments onsite. Priority is given to our residents with diabetes - additional costs may apply.
Dietitian Yes In the philosophy of 'home away from home' we seek to provide 'Nana's home cooked meals'. Sausages and mash, fish 'n chips or meat and three veg. You know, just like at home? Our menu is dietitian approved.
Accredited Visitors No We have many volunteers from various organisations who regularly visit our residents.
Kaumatua Yes Huntly is situated in the heart of the Waikato and has close links with Tainui and the Kingitanga. We have local kaumatua as residents and are regularly visited by whanau from our community.
Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor Yes We are closely associated with ministers and pastors from all the local churches, and their services are available to any residents requiring spiritual support or advice and we hold services in our chapel.

Oxygen Management Yes We have oxygen and nebulising equipment and expertise on site
Gastronomy/Nasogastric Management Yes Although we don't have a 'specialist' gastronomy nurse, our staff have extensive experience in peg feeding and naso-gastric management.
Palliative Care (Contracted) Yes We have 2 refurbished, dedicated palliative care beds as part of our hospital facility. These are large enough to cater to the needs of residents and their whanau. Our staff are trained in how to provide quality palliative care.
End of Life/Palliative Care Yes We work closely with the Community Hospice Waikato services and receive referrals from the Waikato DHB, district nurses, GP's and other health professionals. We aim to provide the best quality care at this very sensitive time of the resident's life.
Dialysis Yes Our registered nurses have considerable experience and skill with peritoneal dialysis. We can provide CAPD onsite and can organise transport for residents to attend haemodialysis appointments at Waikato DHB.
Wound Care Yes Our team is skilled and experienced in wound care, and attend regular training to keep up to date with latest trends in wound care management.
Diabetic Care Yes We have considerable experience dealing with diabetes and liaise closely with the diabetic care team at the DHB
Continence Advice Yes We have a comprehensive continence management program in place.
Stomal Therapy Yes Over the years we have gained considerable experience in managing stomas. We can order the appropriate stocks in for residents with existing stomas. Our staff have support from the DHB when the need arises.
Stroke Rehabilitation Yes With the aid of our contracted physiotherapist and occupational therapist, we can assist with stroke rehabilitation. We employ a Rehabilitation Assistant, Ngaire Glass, who along with our physio Nicola, can help ensure DHB plans are carried out.
Tracheotomy Care Yes Our staff have the ability to provide quality individualised care for all residents regardless of their care needs.
Infection Control Yes We have strict infection control policies and procedures, and you'll find that our facility smells great!
Surgical Followup Yes Convalescent Care is available if approved by the DHB.
Psychiatric Care Yes Our team is supported by services provided by Dr Elizabeth Fussell & Ngaire Sargent from the MHSOP team.

Personal small community environment where we value the contributions of older people.

BACKGROUND:
The North Waikato Care of the Aged Trust Board, Inc. is a charitable Community Trust established in 1972 as a joint venture between the Huntly Lions, Rotary and Jaycees Clubs, dedicated to serving the elderly community of Huntly and the surrounding areas. Since Jaycees have been disbanded, the Trust nowadays has representation from the Hunty Community Board.

Kimihia Resthome was opened in March 1979 by the Hon. Sir Douglas Carter - High Commissioner to London.

The first cottage was built in 1988, and for five years thereafter, one new cottage was built annually.

Fourteen years after the Resthome was opened , Kimihia Hospital was opened in March 1993 by Dame Thea Muldoon QSO.

We aim to provide individualised activity programs for all residents of our facility. Karon, Anne & Dorothy work extremely hard to ensure that no two days are ever the same!

Some examples of the activities that we can provide include: cooking, massage, walking groups, exercise, RSA trips, housie and bingo, bowls, monthly birthday party, Alzheimers group, arts & crafts, Men's workshop, church services, entertainers, yoga class, flower shows, happy hour, guest speakers, newspaper reading, quizzes...and the list goes on.

Parks 1.00 Km Huntly has many beautiful parks, reserves and lakes for residents and their families to enjoy. A favourite with our residents and locals is Lake Hakanoa which is only a hop-skip-&-a-jump from Kimihia.
