Our goal is to provide "the best home away from home", for older people needing care for Huntly and wider community.

We provide 24-hour Registered Nurse coverage, with trained Caregivers and full professional services to cater for all your needs.

Our award winning gardens provide a relaxing environment, and our home cooked meals are served with a smile!

Enjoy the activities and outings or simply relax in one of our many lounges, or in the privacy of your own room.

Family and friends are always welcome to visit and share in planning and implementing care for their loved ones.

Registered Nurse 336 Yes We have 2 Registered Nurses rostered on duty at all times and employ 10 in total. Fiona Morgan & Heidi Schoombie are our Clinical Managers with many years of knowledge and experience in a varied background of nursing environments.
Nurse Practitioner Negotiable We have a great relationship with Waikato District Health Board and Nurse Practitioner Julie Daltry. Julie is always available for assistance as she has a wealth of knowledge in gerontology. We are very privileged to work closely with her.
Enrolled Nurse 8 Yes We currently employ Jan Godley as an Enrolled Nurse at Kimihia Home & Hospital. Jan is well known in our local and surrounding districts.
Healthcare Assistants/Caregivers 1344 Yes Our staff work hard to provide amazing care to our residents. All caregivers complete a comprehensive induction programme when employed and have completed or are working towards a National Certificate in Caregiving.
Physiotherapist 8 Yes Nicola Brown and her team from North Waikato Physiotherapy are contracted to provide services to our facility and routinely visits twice a week, or more often if needed. Nicola works closely with our Rehabilitation Assistant Ngaire Glass.
Occupational Therapist Negotiable We contract services when needed.
Social Worker (on site) No We have access to the services of a Community Social Worker through the Waikato District Health Board when the need arises.
Diversional Therapist 80 Yes Karon Brown, Anne Finn & Dorothy McInally provide a comprehensive monthly activities programme for our residents. Activities provided are based on resident's previous interests and the programme can be tailored to the needs of our resident's.
Hairdresser 16 Yes Our facility contracts a hairdresser, Carol, to provide hairdressing services in our recently refurbished hair salon. She visits weekly or more frequently dependent on the requirements of our residents.
Podiatrist Negotiable We contract the services of Pukekohe Podiatry and Tracy visits every 6 weeks - additional charges apply.
Dietitian Yes In the philosophy of 'home away from home' we seek to provide 'Nana's home cooked meals'. Sausages and mash, fish 'n chips or meat and three veg. You know, just like at home? Our menu is dietitian approved.
Accredited Visitors Yes We have many volunteers from various organisations who regularly visit our residents.
Kaumatua Negotiable Huntly is situated in the heart of the Waikato and has close links with Waikato Tainui. We have access to kaumatua services through the whanau of some of residents and staff here at Kimihia.
Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor Yes Sharon Mackie visits Kimihia 3 times / week to provide chaplaincy services for our residents and staff. Sharon provides a weekly religious service also in our dedicated chapel with residents attending as they wish.

Oxygen Management Yes We have oxygen and nebulising equipment and expertise on site
Gastronomy/Nasogastric Management Yes Although we don't have a 'specialist' gastronomy nurse, our staff have extensive experience in peg feeding and naso-gastric management.
Palliative Care (Contracted) Yes We have 2 refurbished, dedicated palliative care beds as part of our hospital facility. These are large enough to cater to the needs of residents and their whanau. Our staff are trained in how to provide quality palliative care.
End of Life/Palliative Care Yes We work closely with the Community Hospice Waikato services and receive referrals from the Waikato DHB, district nurses, GP's and other health professionals. We aim to provide the best quality care at this very sensitive time of the resident's life.
Dialysis Yes Our registered nurses have considerable experience and skill with peritoneal dialysis. We can provide CAPD onsite and can organise transport for residents to attend haemodialysis appointments at Waikato DHB.
Wound Care Yes Our team is skilled and experienced in wound care, and attend regular training to keep up to date with latest trends in wound care management.
Diabetic Care Yes We have considerable experience dealing with diabetes and liaise closely with the diabetic care team at the DHB
Continence Advice Yes We have a comprehensive continence management program in place.
Stomal Therapy Yes Over the years we have gained considerable experience in managing stomas. We can order the appropriate stocks in for residents with existing stomas. Our staff have support from the DHB when the need arises.
Stroke Rehabilitation Yes With the aid of our contracted physiotherapist and occupational therapist, we can assist with stroke rehabilitation. We employ a Rehabilitation Assistant, Ngaire Glass, who along with our physio Nicola, can help ensure DHB plans are carried out.
Tracheotomy Care Yes Our staff have the ability to provide quality individualised care for all residents regardless of their care needs.
Infection Control Yes We have strict infection control policies and procedures, and you'll find that our facility smells great!
Surgical Followup Yes Convalescent Care is available if approved by the DHB.
Psychiatric Care Yes Our team is supported by services provided by Dr Elizabeth Fussell & Ngaire Sargent from the MHSOP team.
Clinical Management Yes Heidi has over twenty years experience in the Special Assignment Team at Middlemore Hospital and has been with us since 2004, initially part-time and as Clinical Manager since November 2005

Palliative Care Contract Yes We have 2 dedicated palliative care rooms located within our hospital wing. These rooms are kitted with ceiling hoists and provide families space to be able to spend quality time with their loved ones. Our staff work closely with Hospice Waikato.
Day Programme for day stay clients Yes Not ready to leave your own home permanently yet? No worries. Retain your independence, and join us for our Day Care programme. We provide pick-up and drop-off services within the Huntly township from Monday to Friday.
Outings Yes If it's happening - we're there! We aim to provide residents with a varied range of outings from personal errands to taking the whole facility on our annual Big Day Out to the zoo or Hamilton Gardens.

Personal small community environment where we value the contributions of older people.

The North Waikato Care of the Aged Trust Board, Inc. is a charitable Community Trust established in 1972 as a joint venture between the Huntly Lions, Rotary and Jaycees Clubs, dedicated to serving the elderly community of Huntly and the surrounding areas. Since Jaycees have been disbanded, the Trust nowadays has representation from the Hunty Community Board.

Kimihia Resthome was opened in March 1979 by the Hon. Sir Douglas Carter - High Commissioner to London.

The first cottage was built in 1988, and for five years thereafter, one new cottage was built annually.

Fourteen years after the Resthome was opened , Kimihia Hospital was opened in March 1993 by Dame Thea Muldoon QSO.

MEALS ON WHEELS. Enjoy an home cooked meal delivered to your doorstep, at very affordable rates. Check with your family doctor or community nurse if you qualify.

We aim to provide individualised activity programs for all residents of our facility. Karon, Anne & Dorothy work extremely hard to ensure that no two days are ever the same!

Some examples of the activities that we can provide include: cooking, massage, walking groups, exercise, RSA trips, housie and bingo, bowls, monthly birthday party, Alzheimers group, arts & crafts, Men's workshop, church services, entertainers, yoga class, flower shows, happy hour, guest speakers, newspaper reading, quizzes...and the list goes on.

Public Transport 0.00 Km We have the local GoBus operational just outside our front door. Family members can catch the bus to visit with their loved ones directly here to Kimihia.
Shops 2.00 Km Huntly township has a variety of shops and services available in the main street.
Mall 20.00 Km Our closest shopping mall is at Te Awa the base but it is a nice drive on the expressway from Hamilton.
Parks 1.00 Km Huntly has many beautiful parks, reserves and lakes for residents and their families to enjoy. A favourite with our residents and locals is Lake Hakanoa which is only a hop-skip-&-a-jump from Kimihia.
Library 2.00 Km The Huntly library is packed with lots of interesting reading material for all ages. The friendly staff are more than happy to assist everyone.
