Living Waters Rest home is the smallest Stage Two Rest Home in Whanganui with twenty one beds, it is the closest to being home away from home, a boutique with park like surroundings. We are able to adapt and support the needs of our residents ensuring they receive the highest quality of care we are known for by offering personalised professional care. We often get compliments from our residents and their families about how kind our staff are and the 'little extras' they so willingly do. Living Waters Rest Home is owned by Living Waters Medical Solutions Limited. Kylie Wagstaff is the Facility Manager and invites you in any time to have a look around and answer any questions. Registered Nurse Jackson Jose oversees the clinical care of our residents and is available to discuss clinical care and care plans for the very best outcomes for the resident. We pride ourselves for being completely transparent by keeping relatives informed, including them in consultation with the resident to ensure their needs are met. We look forward to meeting or hearing from you and together with your relative to discuss options to meet their needs in a safe caring environment.

Annually we request residents and relatives to complete a a survey which includes a range of questions so we can see if and where we need to improve on. Feedback is given to staff residents and relatives. We value their input and appreciate new ideas. We listen to suggestions and try to accommodate all requests as best as we can.

Enrolled Nurse Yes Our Nurse Manager is a very experienced Enrolled Nurse also available for any concerns.

Kaumatua Yes We are able to contact on behalf of the resident if requested, with all cultural preferences supported. All rooms are blessed by our Kaumatua following a residents passing.
Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor Yes We have interdenominational church services providing pastoral care and communication for those who wish it. We can also arrange individual visits for those residents that would prefer privacy. Catholic Communion is offered weekly.
Other Personnel Yes A wide range of entertainers - Allied Health Professionals as needed - our own Doctor who visits regularly and is also available on call. Should a resident prefer to stay with their own Doctor this can be arranged.

Surgical Followup Yes Post - operation we are able to offer rehabilitation and support follow up appointments with Consultants to ensure the best recovery is made as possible.
Psychiatric Care Yes A referral from the GP will be initiated should a resident require this service.
Clinical Management Yes We have two experienced Registered Nurses employed at Virginia Lodge over seeing the residents clinical care. The Registered Nurses are available to discuss residents needs and develop individualised Care Plans appropriate for the resident for care staff to follow.

May Bring Own Furniture Yes All rooms are furnished, if residents wish to bring in their own furniture this can be arranged. We encourage residents to personalise their room with memorabilia so they feel like at home.
Single Rooms Yes The rooms are single, some with shared en suites, some rooms are very large, some open out to decks, all rooms have a view. The rooms are bright and sunny.
Shared Rooms Yes All rooms are single. There are two very large rooms available should a married couple request togetherness.
Rooms suitable for a couple Yes In the past we have accommodated married couples and are able to if requested.
Ensuite Yes Some rooms have en suites. Other rooms are not far from bathrooms in each wing.

Pets In Residence Yes Our friendly cat is called 'Whisky', the residents love him. There is a bird house; the residents feed the birds daily and canine friends visit regularly. Dog obedience training is next door in the park and residents are welcome to go and observe.

Rural Setting Yes Virginia Lodge is set on an acre of park like grounds near Virginia Lake heading north. It is situated next to a council owned park. It is only a few minutes drive to the main street in Wanganui.

Semi-Secure Yes We have a surveillance camera operating in the communal areas and entrance ways for security, we advise residents to inform staff if they are going out.The home is locked at dusk.

Special Features
The property backs on to a park which has footpath around for the residents to walk around safely, there are often events held here, one very popular event is dog obedience training and show events which the residents are welcome to watch quite safely.
We have a baby grand piano which is played regularly by entertainers.
We have raised garden beds and encourage residents to nurture and grow our vegetables.
We are more like a family than an institution.

We provide a stimulating Activity Programme seven days a week for residents which include entertainment, Happy Hours, walking groups, Tai Chi, Canine Therapy, housie, daily newspaper reading, cooking, board games, card making, pampering sessions, quizzes and sporting activities. We also listen to residents requests and try and accommodate their wishes.
We have two residents Advocates who visit regularly and are able to be contacted at any time.

What's included in your fees and what's not We have no extra charge for rooms, a Government subsidy may be available for part or all of residents care. We can offer an Admission Agreement which is detailed advising expenses covered by the rest home for your consideration.
Staffing qualifications and details Our staff are kind, caring and friendly. They like to have fun with the residents. They are all trained in Aged Care and continue to up skill both internally and externally. Our Registered Nurses are very experienced in Aged care and maintain their Nursing Council pratising certificates and competencies. All residents are assessed on the national Inter Rai programme and are updated six monthly or sooner if necessary.
Details about meals All meals are home cooked on site by experienced cooks. Virginia Lodge is well known for generous delicious meals, there is always food available for extras including snacks at night. The menu is varied and overseen by a Dietician, personal preferences and requests are accommodated for within reason. We have an 'A' Grade Food license and all cooks have a Safe Food Handling Certificate.
