Ultimate Care Rhapsody is a beautiful purpose-built rest home and hospital facility situated in Lower Vogeltown and set in three acres of picturesque park-like setting.

We offer a caring and friendly environment and staff are committed to providing the best possible care services to residents and families. Spacious and welcoming, our facility has an abundance of lounges and communal areas where residents can mingle and feel at home. Large bedrooms, some accommodating double occupancy, allow for a comfortable home life.

The facility has very close connections to the local community. Shops and amenities are nearby in central New Plymouth.

Our dedicated team of nurses and caregivers offer an unparalleled quality of personalised care backed by industry-leading qualifications and training. They are provided with ongoing training and professional development. We promise to offer comfortable home-like facilities and deliver the very best in care.

Registered Nurse Yes Registered nurses are available on site 24/7. Our Clinical Services Manager, is available Monday to Friday and on call weekends.
Healthcare Assistants/Caregivers Yes We have a team of dedicated care givers that are committed to providing the highest standard of care. All our caregivers undergo training and auditing on a regular basis.
Physiotherapist Yes We have a Physiotherapist who is available on site Mondays and Thursdays. We also have the services of another Physio therapist who trains all our staff in the correct lifting techniques.
Occupational Therapist Yes We do not employ an Occupational Therapist, however should one be required we can easily source this through our DHB or privately.
Social Worker (on site) No Ultimate Care Rhapsody does not have its own social worker. We work with the Needs Assessment team in the community. Social work input is available if required.
Diversional Therapist Yes We have a fully qualified Diversional therapist, who runs a fun pact activities programme. At our last Ministry of Health audit we were awarded a Continuous Improvement for our activities.
Activities Co-ordinator Yes Our activity co-coordinators are on site 5 days a week. Our activities programme is regularly updated and promises to cater to a variety of interests and needs. Our programme incorporates day trips, one-to-one sessions and group sessions.
Hairdresser Yes We have our own salon with a hairdresser in attendance Tuesdays and Thursdays. Residents are also welcome to have their own hairdresser visit them at Rhapsody.
Podiatrist Yes Comes to the facility every 6 weeks and on request
Dietitian Yes Our menus are all dietician approved. Individual dietician input is also available by referral to Taranaki DHB dieticians.

Oxygen Management Yes If oxygen has been medically prescribed we are very capable of managing this therapy for any resident that should require it.
Gastronomy/Nasogastric Management Yes We can provide care for any Gastric/Nasogastric management. Our registered nurses are skilled in managing this requiremet.
End of Life/Palliative Care Yes We have a dedicated team of registered nurses and a National Support Office that provides clinical guidance and training and support for our staff. We also have a National Clinical Coach who oversees our end of Life Palliative Care nursing.
Dialysis No Unfortunately we are not resourced to manage dialysis
Wound Care Yes Our registered nurses are all trained in wound care. We have a National Clinical Coach who is also our wound nurse for the organisation. All wounds are monitored and reported to our clinical team to ensure treatment is effective.
Diabetic Care Yes Should you require any level of support for type1 or type 2 diabetes we can assist you with this. Our clinical manager oversees all of our residents who require insulin or special diets
Continence Advice Yes We have a great team of registered nurses who will undertake a continence assessment upon your arrival and on-going should you need it.
Stomal Therapy No Although we do not have a stomal therapist on site, we have no problem accessing these services should it be required.
Stroke Rehabilitation Yes If you have been unfortunate to have suffered a stroke we have a dedicated team that can assist you in your recovery, ensuring all your needs are being met.
Tracheotomy Care Yes Our registered nurses are skilled in many areas and should you have a tracheotomy that requires assistance with management we can meet your needs.
Spinal Injuries Care No We are not specialised to manage spinal injuries
Infection Control Yes We have an excellent infection control programme that is strictly adhered to at all times.
Surgical Followup Yes If you have recently undergone any surgery and you are coming to us for recovery, we can provide that for you. Our clinical team can ensure you have a full recovery post-op. This is usually agreed following a pre-admission assessment.
Psychiatric Care No We do not provide this level of service.

Respite Yes We have respite days available. Call our manager to book time that suits your needs. Come and try us out under your respite availability, you never know you just might want to come back again because you have had a great time being cared for.
Carer Support No We provide carer support for the caregiver. The person in their care continues to be looked after in a safe environment. Take a break knowing that your loved one is in extremely capable hands.

Single Rooms Yes We have wonderful spacious rooms to offer you. The room can also accommodate some pieces of your own personal furniture of your choice.

Rooms suitable for a couple Yes If we have a married couple that wish to remain together and one is rest home level and the other may need hospital level this is not a problem. We would love the opportunity to provide the care you both need whilst you can still remain together.

Alcohol Permitted Yes We have a regular Happy Hour. Residents are welcome to consume their own alcohol within reason.

Policy for management of challenging behaviour Yes Our organisation has a large number of policies to help guide our staff to deliver the best possible care. Managing challenging behavior is one of those policies. Our staff are also given training to manage and difficult behavior.
Confused Residents Yes From time to time some of our elderly become confused. Our staff are at hand and trained to manage this. The safety of our residents is paramount.
Smokers Room No Whilst we do not have a smokers room. We do have a designated area outside for this purpose.

We have 2 dedicated activities co-ordinators who provides an interesting and varied programme of activities for our residents.

Our programme includes a variety of activities held both on-site and off-site. On-site activities include guest speakers, musical entertainers and an exercise programme.

We also have a men's group that meets regularly. Shadow the dog visits every Friday from K9 friends. We also have a dedicated craft day once a week.

We host a number of events on site which have included regular BBQ's, Christmas celebrations, fortnightly Happy Hour and a loud shirt day.

Last year Rhapsody started up its very own worm farm which many residents have enjoyed looking after.

Details about meals Our menus are dietician approved and rotate on a 5 weekly basis. We promise to provide both highly nutritious meals with the taste of home cooking. For those residents requiring a texture modified meal, our new menu incorporates options from the Pure Food Company. Winner of the NZ Food Awards 2015 - Health and Awareness, the Pure Food Company’s meals deliver optimal nutritional benefits to residents as well as being both appetizing and delicious.
Associated Complexes We also offer rest home level care and respite care. Our facility operates under the governance of the Ultimate Care Group.

Mall 0.20 Km We are situtated very close to the city centre of New Plymouth and therefore have a large variety of shops, cafes and other facilties close by.
Parks There are several large, beautiful parks close by which have gardens, walks and children's playgrounds. We also pride ourselves on our own park like grounds which the residents all enjoy and provides a very peaceful and tranquil setting.
Library 0.20 Km The local library is situated in the city centre close by. We also have access to a mobile library that calls in on a regular basis and we have our own library on site.
